  • Great Memorial Day weekend

"Rented both cottages for a party of five adults and a young child. Really lovely, just as described. Bathrooms could use a little updating but otherwise quite nice, and a very quick walk to the private beach. Also easy walk to Blue Plate Cafe for breakfast or lunch, and short drive to wineries, parks, antiques and more. Highly recommend. NOTE: if you are only renting one cottage try for the blue one. There was a boisterous large family next to the yellow cottage, where the pool and deck are VERY close to the cottage. A little noisy at times."

  • I love this cottage!

"I have stayed at Rose Hill for four years, and I already reserved for a fifth. Rose Hill is a pleasant, simple, very comfortable cottage - it matches my memories of such cottages from childhood. Over the years, I have invited friends and family. This year, my daughter and son-in-law begged to extend the stay for another week - and the in-laws asked for another week! Rose Hill is a quick walk to and from the beach. My friends and I love to cook and the kitchen is just right for us to do so. The beds are comfy, the cottage is always clean. For me, Rose Hill is a perfect exemplar of a Michigan vacation place. I use 'simple' in the best sort of way - the life style for the weeks I am there is simple: swimsuits, shorts, t-shirts, bare feet in the cottage, good food (Barney's in New Buffalo has become a great grocery store!), good restaurants, amazing sunsets night after night, cricket noise all night and day. Who needs anything else! (80 minutes from downtown Chicago is a plus.)"

  • Cheerful and Cozy

"We brought our two year old twin sons here and had a wonderful time! The house is clean, bright, open, and comfortable. The beach was less than a ten minute walk, even with slow poke kids. There were toys there that my boys thought were wonderful and they loved climbing the ladder to the top bunk and eating at the kitchen island. The beach was beautiful, sunsets were amazing, and I even got to take pictures of a huge storm coming in over the lake. When we left and got back home to Cincinnati, one of my boys started crying and said he wanted to go back to his blue house. We would love to go back!"

  • Wonderful!

"My family met up for a week's vacation at this home and had the best time. We are spread all over the US and we try to get together once a year to rent a house and spend a week together. This is the 7th or 8th time we have done this and everyone agreed that this was the best getaway yet. We had 7 people in our group (72, 69, 45, 44, 42, 21 and 4) and one boxer dog (3). Everyone loved this house! The things that we look for when renting a house were more than covered for the interior: the great room (kitchen, living, dining) had more than enough space for everyone to be together yet not feel crowded, the furniture throughout was comfortable and inviting, we cooked in every night and found EVERYTHING we needed in the kitchen, the bathrooms were spacious and modern, and the bedrooms were spacious with comfortable beds. We all felt that one of the best parts about the interior of the house was how much it connected you to the outside. The walls of windows and doors made you feel like you were outside all the time, which was perfect because we loved the outside. There were so many areas to explore between the screened back porch, the large deck just off the great room, the fire pit at the back of the property, the really large yard, the balcony off the master bedroom, etc., that it was easy to find your own space, which can sometimes be important during these trips. There were plenty of chairs and tables wherever you went. The 4 year old in our group loved the space to run indoors or out and to explore for bugs and stuff in the yard, but his favorite part was the train. They didn't come by often but, when they did, he would yell TRAIN! at the top of his lungs as he made a mad dash to the front porch to see it every time it went by. (FYI, I think we saw 3 trains max per day and, other than being a joy to the toddler, it did not impact our vacation one bit. We never heard the train at night.) The walk to the private beach was easy and we made the walk several times. We also spent one day up at Warren Dunes, which was about a 10 minute drive. We would recommend both highly. Marjolein and Scott were wonderful to work with. You can tell they poured a lot of themselves into the home and we really felt honored that they shared it with us. We would go back in a second and can't recommend it enough."
