  • A wonderful week of vacation

"When we started to plan this year's trip to the US which had to include a visit with old friends on Douglas Lake, south of the Mackinaw bridge, we realized that this would be a chance to spend some days on the UP, an area which was totally unknown to us Swiss. Grand Marais with its proximity to the Pictured Rock National Lakeshore, and also not too far from the Seney National Wildlife Refuge, was soon the choice. Then we found the description of Plover Retreat in the internet and thought: That's it. How right we were. Rental agreement and payment from overseas functioned with the kind support by the local manager. Her directions by e-mail how to drive to the cabin helped us to find it without any problem on a sunny late afternoon and to settle there with ease. It was the start of a marvelous week in which we enjoyed to explore the beautiful and fascinating landscape on Lake Superior by hiking, to learn about the local history and to be at leisure in this wonderful cabin. Its rustic and carefully decorated wooden interior is well arranged and equipped with everything what is needed for a real 'retreat'. It was so peaceful to sit back in one of the comfortable armchairs and to page through the botany and wildlife books from the little cupboard. Even the Webster's rendered its service when we were lost with an American term. In town, we met friendly people who gave us many interesting information about passed days and everyday life in this region. If Plover Retreat wasn't so far away from home we would come back very soon to this neat spot. Well, who knows? A big 'thank you' to the owners for making Plover Retreat available for rent and to the local manager for her perfect administrative Service."

  • Epic Adventure Week 4

"The Bungalow at Seacoast at Sand River Lakeshore Resort was perfect. Teresa was an angel. We used the property as a romantic base camp for touring the area. Marquette and Munising and all their attractions were fantastic. Pictured Rocks is just the best place in the world. The Bungalow was very comfortable, clean, modern, fresh and had everything we needed to cook great meals daily usually on the grill. The sauna is fantastic and we used it twice daily. The Bungalow was so romantic and charming with the sky window over the comfortable bed, the water feature and flowers off the deck, the pine trees surrounding the cabin, the beach was great, sunsets fantastic, ships, Lake Superior as always incredible and just really a nice setting managed by nice folks. We would go back in a heartbeat."

  • Perfect secluded getaway

"Me and my family (my parents plus 3 younger siblings) all greatly enjoyed this cabin. We came up to the UP for a long weekend and things could not have gone better. It was easy to communicate with the owners, easy to pay for it, and easy to access once we arrived. The owners were gracious enough to allow us to bring our two dogs (a lab and a German Shepherd) which was a huge bonus for us. We loved being so close to the river and hiking trails. The view of Lake Superior is just breathtaking. The kitchen had everything we needed to do everything from grilling out one night to making chili the next. The lawn was the perfect size to play lawn games (ladder ball, catch, etc.) and the kids loved the big rocks to climb on. The bathrooms worked out perfect with one being downstairs so we could undress, warm up, and get clean all without tracking dirt into the house. We were even able to do a load of laundry when we got a little too wet during an ill advised kayaking expedition into Superior! During rainy times there were plenty of books for all ages and board games. One night we watched a movie too. I would highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking to escape the grind of daily life. It met every need we had and the set up could not have been more perfect. Thank you for sharing this amazing property with us!!"

  • A small piece of heaven

"My wife and I recently went here for three nights as part of our honeymoon. The home is beautiful and very secluded. Waking up to the view and sound of the lake was amazing. Having fires outside and listening to the waves was beautiful. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get away and enjoy the outdoors but still have all the comforts of home. I will always rememeber and truely miss this place."
