  • Wonderful View

"Mike is a wonderful host and went out of his way to make our stay a nice one. The pictures don't do the house justice. Beautiful view. Lots of interesting things to do. Very friendly people. I would highly recommend staying here. Lots to See. Debbie Larimore"

  • A wonderful retreat on Lake Superior!

"My husband, son, and I spent four nights at the Whitecaps Cottage in October. The fall colors had already peaked, but there was still plenty of fall foliage left and we certainly enjoyed our visit to the Upper Peninsula The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and the view of Lake Superior was just fabulous. We cooked all of our breakfasts and all but one of our dinners in the well equipped kitchen. Our one dinner out was in Houghton at the Library Brew Pub--a really good place to eat!. There were plenty of brochures provided by the owners on what to see and do in the area. We drove to Copper Harbor on the Keweenaw Peninsula the first day taking in the sights and did some hiking in the rain. The second day we has sunshine so we drove to the Porcupine Mountains and took a longer hike there. Our third day we went back to Copper Harbor and hiked some more. We had a wonderful lunch at the Keweenaw Lodge. One of our favorite things to do at the cottage was watching the sun rise over Lake Superior while eating our breakfast. The cottage was truly a great location for us to enjoy both the Porcupine Mountains and Keweenaw Peninsula. Thank you so much for sharing Whitecaps Cottage with us,"

  • Paradise !!!

"I can't even figure out how to put it into words. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING !!!!!! We wanted a place to just get away from all of the hustle and bustle of life and we couldn't have chosen any better ! I have been on many, many vacations and although happy with mostly all of them, I have never taken the time to write a review. The pictures and description of this place cannot even come close to giving you the ability to comprehend it's beauty. We walked out the back door onto what felt like miles and miles of our own personal beach and water. In an entire week, we saw 1 car and a trash truck. We left our window open at night so we could hear the waves crashing onto the beach outside. I have never felt a feeling of peace like that in my life. Our kids acted like kids ! No phones, ipods, ipads, computers, etc... They jumped in kayaks, played beach volleyball, played frisbee, and built sand castles. The house itself is beautiful. We brought our own lawnchairs, trash bags, dish liquid, toilet paper, paper towels, etc... NONE of which was needed. They had EVERYTHING you could ever think about needing!!! We have been home for less than a week and already got our deposit money back in the mail. Everything about this experience was perfect !! My words cannot describe it so stop reading and book your stay !!!!! Thank you Todd and family for a perfect vacation !!"

  • Exactly what we wanted! Perfect family cottage!

"I cannot begin to say enough wonderful things about this cottage. First, we chose this area because we figured that it would be a perfect "home base" point for our family to use as we toured other spots in the U.P. My husband had vacationed in this area as a child and so after researching some cottages, we chose this one. It was a perfect location: half way between the Tahquamenon Falls and Sault Ste. Marie. The Iroquois Point Lighthouse is just down the road, Monocle Lake Campground is around the corner and many other parks, fishing spots and ATV trails are near by. Although we did not go to the casinos, they are very close too and we even found the Dancing Crane Cafe' - which is a must if you need your coffee before a drive. Our son, age 11 and daughter, age 7 LOVED the cottage and short drives to new spots. We went to the fisheries, Brimley State Park and also found a few less traveled spots like some of the day-picnic spots along the Curly Lewis Highway. The cottage itself was clean, well kept and stocked with everything anyone could possibly need. Pauline brought us fresh towels, new rugs and a table cloth they day we arrived and made sure that the fire wood was restocked so that we could have bonfires out back. They thought of everything and were extremely kind. Both Pauline and George communicated with us through the whole reservation process and I was really impressed with their professionalism. They are really lovely people! The beach and overlook from the cottage was also perfect. We didn't know what to expect because many areas of Lake Superior took a washing over the winter and were eroded from the harsh weather. Although the beach at the cottage had been hit a little, the owners had rebuilt the steps and when the waves finally died down, we were able to take long, peaceful walks along the shore and collected buckets of rocks. I feel that after reading some of the other comments, I should just say that this cottage is not a resort. It is in the woods, there are bugs, it is windy and can get cold. The water pressure isn't a waterfall and the square footage doesn't match a mansion but if what you are expecting and looking for is a quaint, comfortable, cozy and well loved little place in the forest where you can connect with your family, nature and spirit, then this is your place! It sets back off the road, has a very private beach front, close to "life" but far away from "stuff" and is serene, quiet and homey. We loved it!"
