"Yearly we try to find a place large enough to bring our kids, their families, and some aunts and uncles. We were not pleased with our last trip, so looked for something that was large and equidistant from the various travel points (Chicago, Saginaw, and Minneapolis). The owners were nice enough to let us check in early, and even though the dishwasher was out of order (being a homeowner, we all know that happens), the entire experience was fantastic. We rented the pontoon boat and the older boys/men went out fishing. We buried a treasure map and treasure on the island in the middle of Stanley Lake, and made it fun for the younger crowd. The decor of this home is very nice and understated. It would not be out of place in a major city. It had wi-fi, Direct TV, a firepit (with wood!), and a large hot tub on the lower porch. The upper deck gave wonderful views of the lake, which is 67 steps down to the dock (we know, our legs still hurt!). Because you are in the U.P., the lake was hardly crowded, just some fishing boats and the occasional jet ski. The area is typical small town, so don't go expecting that there will be a vibrant nightlife. This is THE place to chill out with all the comforts of home on hand. We were very happy with the rental, and the owners...oh, and yes, there seems to be a friendly spirit at times (just read the in house guest book). 5 stars, and they deserve every one."Guest: Timothy W. "Our time at your cabin was wonderful. The week covered the entire gamut of weather.....warm, calm, stormy, windy, cool, sunny , cloudy. Each day was different and dramatic in its own way. Our 16 year old Border Collie acted like a pup again , chasing sticks into the lake and in general, enjoying herself. The "Big Bay Tennis Assn." was most accommodating in the use of the courts they built and asked us to join them in a set of tennis. In addition to day trips to waterfalls, Thomas Lookout and the Huron Mountain Club gateway, we sampled the local cuisine. Lumberjack Bar ice cream was a high point as was Lisa and my good fortune to celebrate our 60th and 70th birthdays at your lovely cabin. Thank you and we hope to be back!"Guest: pat m. "We loved location. You get out of door and find yourself in the beautiful park with lovely trail. There is another park in Escanaba, short drive from the house. Both parks located on Michigan lake. While in Escanaba, be sure to visit Swedish Pantry for great food and Leigh's Garden Winery for great wine. One hour drive from the cottage is city of Marquett which is well worth of driving to. There is farmers market in both Gladstone and Escanabe which offers great fresh produce, eggs, baking goods, etc The cottage is equipped with absolutely everything you might need during your stay. We always rent houses or condos for our vacation and we both agree that this cottage equipped better than any other place we stayed at."Guest: granpa fish Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: August 26, 2014View listing
"This was our second year (there will be a 3rd and more) at this cabin. To be honest I want to be selfish and not leave a review so this place is always available for us to book when we want! But that wouldn't be fair to the hosts. It is clean and well kept. The owners are always making improvements every Spring and Fall and it shows that they care about constantly improving the cabin. When we travel, we usually will stay in a vacation rental and this ranks among the best we've stayed in! The scenery in this area of the UP is stunning. Whether you stay at the cabin and just enjoy the changing moods of Lake Superior (and catch a glimpse of the bald eagles or possibly the Northern Lights) or take a drive through the area we like to call "North of North", you will NOT be disappointed. This cabin is a great place to start from and return to if you chose to go on an excursion. If you want to be comfortable and just relax and enjoy the beauty of the nature surrounding you, this IS the place to stay. Looking forward to staying again next year!"Guest: Paige & Chris Date of Stay: September 2014 Review Submitted: October 21, 2014View listing
