  • Another great time in your cabin.

"Second year in a row at your cabin, everyone had a good time, with great fishing on Thunder Lake. The place was clean and cozy. We would love to try it during warmer weather. See you soon I am sure. Thanks again guys."

  • Perfect 20th Anniversary Trip

"We stayed an entire week in this beautiful cabin in the UP of Michigan. The cabin was well equipped with everything to make your stay easy and enjoyable. Kitchen is well stocked, gas grill is ready and waiting, the pellet stove is up for its important job and the decor makes you feel right at home. Mary Jean answered our emails in a timely manner and even though our deposit checks "went missing", she was very patient and understanding. There was a folder with all the pertinent info one could need on the area "goings on". We used a blue pamphlet to make sure to hit all the big sights and many waterfalls in the area (we always had this with us). The day trips looking for waterfall after waterfall were the best. This area is a GREAT place to Geocache. I think we found 28 caches on this trip. The most ever in such a short amount of time (we usually have our teens with us and it's usually them actually locating the caches - it's sooo much fun being the 'finder' and not the 'secretary' documenting the finds). The hot tub is great and always makes returning after a long day knowing that's waiting. We didn't have enough time to enjoy the lake right there at the cabin. Our day trips kept us busy and when we were at the cabin, the chilly air and winds kept us inside by the stove. There's so much left to do up there and I think a 2 week visit would be ideal. We want to return again ASAP and thinking about leaving the teens at home once again. The cell service is nil but you know that from the get go since Mary Jean made sure to inform us of that ahead of time. The cabin does have WI-Fi and when we were at the cabin, my husband was able to keep in contact with other family members who had iPhones. There's too much more to tell you and you will need to take my word for it when I say this is the perfect cabin to stay at. Thank you Ed and Mary Jean for sharing your family home with us. We'd love to return next year."

  • A wonderful week of vacation

"When we started to plan this year's trip to the US which had to include a visit with old friends on Douglas Lake, south of the Mackinaw bridge, we realized that this would be a chance to spend some days on the UP, an area which was totally unknown to us Swiss. Grand Marais with its proximity to the Pictured Rock National Lakeshore, and also not too far from the Seney National Wildlife Refuge, was soon the choice. Then we found the description of Plover Retreat in the internet and thought: That's it. How right we were. Rental agreement and payment from overseas functioned with the kind support by the local manager. Her directions by e-mail how to drive to the cabin helped us to find it without any problem on a sunny late afternoon and to settle there with ease. It was the start of a marvelous week in which we enjoyed to explore the beautiful and fascinating landscape on Lake Superior by hiking, to learn about the local history and to be at leisure in this wonderful cabin. Its rustic and carefully decorated wooden interior is well arranged and equipped with everything what is needed for a real 'retreat'. It was so peaceful to sit back in one of the comfortable armchairs and to page through the botany and wildlife books from the little cupboard. Even the Webster's rendered its service when we were lost with an American term. In town, we met friendly people who gave us many interesting information about passed days and everyday life in this region. If Plover Retreat wasn't so far away from home we would come back very soon to this neat spot. Well, who knows? A big 'thank you' to the owners for making Plover Retreat available for rent and to the local manager for her perfect administrative Service."

  • Low Tech/High Relaxation

"My husband, daughter, son-in-law and I spent a totally relaxing week in this roomy vacation home located off the beaten path on Farmers Lake. It is the perfect getaway from the rush and frenzy of the real world. You can fish right from the dock or take the fishing boat out to catch walleye, northern pike and bass. Enjoy the sauna or relax in the screened-in free-standing "porch". There is a full service grocery store and pharmacy five minutes away if you need them. The charming town of Marquette, located on Lake Superior, is a half an hour away and offers restaurants, shops, a Nautical Museum and a Lighthouse Tour. If you're looking to unwind and get away from it all this is definitely the place for you!"
