  • A wonderful week of vacation

"When we started to plan this year's trip to the US which had to include a visit with old friends on Douglas Lake, south of the Mackinaw bridge, we realized that this would be a chance to spend some days on the UP, an area which was totally unknown to us Swiss. Grand Marais with its proximity to the Pictured Rock National Lakeshore, and also not too far from the Seney National Wildlife Refuge, was soon the choice. Then we found the description of Plover Retreat in the internet and thought: That's it. How right we were. Rental agreement and payment from overseas functioned with the kind support by the local manager. Her directions by e-mail how to drive to the cabin helped us to find it without any problem on a sunny late afternoon and to settle there with ease. It was the start of a marvelous week in which we enjoyed to explore the beautiful and fascinating landscape on Lake Superior by hiking, to learn about the local history and to be at leisure in this wonderful cabin. Its rustic and carefully decorated wooden interior is well arranged and equipped with everything what is needed for a real 'retreat'. It was so peaceful to sit back in one of the comfortable armchairs and to page through the botany and wildlife books from the little cupboard. Even the Webster's rendered its service when we were lost with an American term. In town, we met friendly people who gave us many interesting information about passed days and everyday life in this region. If Plover Retreat wasn't so far away from home we would come back very soon to this neat spot. Well, who knows? A big 'thank you' to the owners for making Plover Retreat available for rent and to the local manager for her perfect administrative Service."

  • Great for adults who value privacy

"This unit generally caters to families or groups during the ski season. But we travel to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at various times during the year to visit family and friends. We value our privacy and time alone. This unit is ideal for that purpose. It has an open floor plan, is well equipped, well maintained and very clean. The WIFI is fast. The “great room” is filled with light during the day. It’s at the top of a hill and you can see the forest for miles. There is even a view of Copper Peak--the only sky flying facility in the Western Hemisphere. You really feel that you are relaxing at your home-away-from-home. At night, the view of the starts is magical—even more amazing if you are lucky enough to be there during the dark of the moon."

  • Perfect vacation home

"This was the perfect vacation home for us! We felt very comfortable and at home here. We hated to leave! This was the perfect location, between L'anse, Houghton, Chassell and Pelkie. Everything was clean and fresh and exactly as pictured. There were plenty of towels and bedding, dishes, etc. We wanted for nothing! We slept like babies! Can't say enough good things about this place. We definitely recommend it, and are trying to find a reason to travel to the U.P. again next summer so we can stay here again."

  • Trail Wind Lodge

"My husband and I, and our weiner dog, Charley, stayed at the Trail Wind Lodge. We have been home two days, and we are ready to go back. The place was excellent, and the pictures on this web site are right on the mark. If we had only showed up with our towels and tooth brushes, it would have been more than enough. Kevin and his wife thought of everything. I was impressed with how clean the property was inside and out. Even the window sill were clean! There was always hot water and the rooms had no marks or dents, or holes in the wall. We had experienced things like that at other places in the past. These people take pride in their rental. My husband and I enjoyed the motor boat for fishing, even though it was chilly. We fish and we like to go when the temperature is in the 60's. It was great! We recommend this place to people that want a nice quiet get-a-way AND if you are an avid star gazer! Stars were too numerous to count! Breath-taking! The owner also supplies a canoe, kiyak, paddle boat, etc. We can't say enough about how great this place was. We got to meet the owner, and he is as nice and accommodating as he can be. We are definitely planning on going back next year - God willing. Charley too! I would be glad to give people information by email, if the owner is willing to share it. Thanks again Kevin, you and your wife be wonderfully blessed!"
