"Every year three girlfriends and I choose a different location for our girlfriend weekend, and this year was Muskegon. We met at Bay Lane Cottage for our 11th annual girlfriend weekend and really, really enjoyed our stay. Although we don't need separate rooms, it turned out there was a sleeping area for each of us. The cottage was spotlessly clean and cheerfully decorated. Kitchen and bathrooms were updated and modern. We spent a lot of time playing board games and gabbing. The only down side was that we'd intended to watch the Detroit Tigers slug their way to the division championship and were disappointed to find out we couldn't get the baseball game on the TV. We worked around it, listening on the radio two nights and going to Bear Lake Tavern the third. Just thought I'd mention it in case there are major sports fans who read this! Other than the disappointment of the Tigers losses (they lost the games but clinched the division) we loved Bay Lane Cottage and would recommend it to anyone."

"The Sandpiper Cottage is very well appointed and cozy and the location is perfect. The beachfront is gorgeous and uncrowded and it never felt as though we were sharing the space with the owners or guests from the other cottages. We had GORGEOUS views of the sunset and lovely bonfires around the fire pit every night.
The photos accurately represent the rooms, the decor and the scenery. The beds are full sized beds, not queens and they do fill up nearly all the space in the bedrooms with no additional floor space for an air mattress. I would recommend the cottage for a party of 4, rather than 6, as the third sleeping area is the roll-out sofa in the living room. The living room is the area shown in the photos and the sofa bed is also the only sofa so it's not ideal for use as a third bedroom all the time. The sofa bed is best for a one-time overnight guest or small children.
We had a party of 6 adults and had no problems sharing one bathroom as it is a nice size. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and is laid out well for several people to be working in it at once. This is really a place to spend time in the outdoor spaces and on the private beach, though, as it is very small. It rained one day during our trip and it was hard to share such intimate space with 6 adults, however 2 couples could be completely comfortable.
We are a late night group and we were very lucky the neighbors in the Evergreen Cottage never complained. I would recommend larger groups (or potentially loud groups) also reserve the Evergreen Cottage for the additional space and privacy. Loading in groceries is not super easy, but if you are wearing the right shoes the walk is not that bad. There is ample firewood on site for evening camp fires and the garbage and recycling are emptied daily, which is a nice feature as I have stayed at other properties that offered no firewood or trash service.
The one thing guests should prepare for is the lack of internet or cell phone service. Although not a rustic cabin, the location IS remote and we had no cell phone or internet service the entire stay. Some cell service could be acquired at the end of the driveway but for most internet usage we had to drive about a half a mile to the Red Rooster Tavern to try to get a signal. Anyone needing to work while on vacation should plan ahead for this.
This is a great place to relax and unplug and enjoy the beauty of a Michigan Summer."

"What a great find! As others have stated the photos don't do it complete justice. The views of the lake from within the house are fantastic! The house was very clean and cozy. We both enjoyed the open floor plan from kitchen to living area for relaxing. One can just sit on the couch and stare out onto the lake enjoying the view through the magnificent windows that cover the entire living room. The bathrooms were spacious and clean. The owner's sister and husband were just as gracious as could be in welcoming us. My husband and I always prefer off-season privacy, so were happy to have the seclusion of the snow and cold as company. Muskegon State Park is just up the pike and made for great walks on the trails with the dogs. It was only a short trip to Grand Haven to enjoy a day of after Thanksgiving shopping as well.
Our only recommendation would be to have a working fireplace. We were a tad disappointed, though I'm sure the bulk of rentals are in the summer when this wouldn't be noticed. And, I'm sure it's a matter of taste, but we found the main bedroom queen bed to be on the far side of needing replacement--a little on the mushy side. We ended up switching to the twin bedded room for a more peaceful night's sleep.
Between the location, cleanliness, accommodation of the owners and price, this is a definite do-over for us!"

"My husband and I had a great time in this delightful cottage! It's small, but not too small - the perfect size for just the two of us and our little dog. It's very well maintained and clean. We had lots of privacy, too. We practically had the beach to ourselves the whole time. There were a few people on the weekend, but during the week I took a very long walk on the beach all by myself and I didn't see another person the whole time. The beach is beautiful and we did go swimming on sunny days even though the water was cold! My husband enjoyed playing golf at a couple nearby courses and we had fun going to Muskegon State Park (just a few miles down the road) for hikes in the woods. In late September the sun sets by 7:30 but we managed to enjoy the evenings watching movies on the DVD player. There are plenty of restaurants within a 20 minute drive if you don't feel like cooking, but the kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal. My only issue with the cottage was the sliding screen door was a bit difficult to slide and the screen was just starting to rip along the edge - there are a lot of mosquitos so intact screens are essential! Remember to pack the bug spray if you plan to spend any amount of time in the woods - the breezes on the beach blow all the bugs away! The steps to the beach are pretty steep so they might be difficult for an elderly or really out of shape person. I will definitely consider returning to this lovely, cozy, clean, pet-friendly cottage!"
