  • Charming and Secluded

"The Sandpiper Cottage is very well appointed and cozy and the location is perfect. The beachfront is gorgeous and uncrowded and it never felt as though we were sharing the space with the owners or guests from the other cottages. We had GORGEOUS views of the sunset and lovely bonfires around the fire pit every night. The photos accurately represent the rooms, the decor and the scenery. The beds are full sized beds, not queens and they do fill up nearly all the space in the bedrooms with no additional floor space for an air mattress. I would recommend the cottage for a party of 4, rather than 6, as the third sleeping area is the roll-out sofa in the living room. The living room is the area shown in the photos and the sofa bed is also the only sofa so it's not ideal for use as a third bedroom all the time. The sofa bed is best for a one-time overnight guest or small children. We had a party of 6 adults and had no problems sharing one bathroom as it is a nice size. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and is laid out well for several people to be working in it at once. This is really a place to spend time in the outdoor spaces and on the private beach, though, as it is very small. It rained one day during our trip and it was hard to share such intimate space with 6 adults, however 2 couples could be completely comfortable. We are a late night group and we were very lucky the neighbors in the Evergreen Cottage never complained. I would recommend larger groups (or potentially loud groups) also reserve the Evergreen Cottage for the additional space and privacy. Loading in groceries is not super easy, but if you are wearing the right shoes the walk is not that bad. There is ample firewood on site for evening camp fires and the garbage and recycling are emptied daily, which is a nice feature as I have stayed at other properties that offered no firewood or trash service. The one thing guests should prepare for is the lack of internet or cell phone service. Although not a rustic cabin, the location IS remote and we had no cell phone or internet service the entire stay. Some cell service could be acquired at the end of the driveway but for most internet usage we had to drive about a half a mile to the Red Rooster Tavern to try to get a signal. Anyone needing to work while on vacation should plan ahead for this. This is a great place to relax and unplug and enjoy the beauty of a Michigan Summer."

  • Charming getaway

"We had a fantastic time at Hannah's Cabana! What a charming, fun place to get away and relax. We loved all that Grand Haven had to offer: sunset at the lighthouse, Rosy Mound trails, local cider mill, beautiful beach, darling shops. The house itself was charming, very spacious for a couple or family, charm and character in every nook and cranny. Great location, a block from downtown shops and restaurants on a quiet street. The cottage even comes with 2 beach cruisers! After taking in gorgeous scenery, we enjoyed naps in the hammock and cold beers on the patio. And dinner al fresco, of course. What a lovely spot you have to enjoy. We'll be back!"

  • Perfect Vacation

"This house & location were everything I hoped for & more. The house is lovely & feels just like my fantasy of a summer home near the Lake. The trail through the woods to the beach is a fairyland, beautiful, quiet & unpeopled; great for biking & running. The beaches are so close & you have your choice of protected inland Duck Lake with warm water or Lake Michigan which is not so warm but absolutely lovely with a lagoon that's warm & safe for children: the best of both worlds. Cycling through the State Park on paved, deserted roads surrounded by woods was a joy. The landlords, Peter & Jan are delightful & most helpful; they feel like old friends immediately! Squeaky, the cat is glorious; he has morning coffee with you on any of the three porches & has the loudest purr of any cat I've met. All the beds are most comfortable & it's very quiet. We all loved everything about the place & I have already signed us up for next year. It was a perfect vacation! Thank you so much!"

  • The Perfect Getaway

"We rented the cottage for three days in October to relax and it was everything we expected and more! Between the overview on this site and the email conversations with Bethany, we were completely satisfied with our experience! It was immediately evident that the cottage was cared for. Everything was clean and looked fresh, even though we know guests had left not long before we got there. The amount of care that went into making the guest experience great was amazing - there was nothing we looked for that we couldn't find! The accurate description of the cottage proves the attention to detail that the owners have, and the binders and other area info on the tables were more than sufficient to fill a week's worth of time, let alone three short days. The bedrooms were immaculate, and our son enjoyed sleeping in a bunk bed! We knew the cottage came equipped with a crib and high chair, which gave us more room in the SUV for other fun stuff! Maybe the best part of the trip was simply sitting in the chair facing the lake with the fireplace going just staring at the colors and the silent tranquility absent from our daily lives... We drew a bit of bad luck on the weather, as it rained almost the entire time we were there, but that didn't stop us from exploring the area. The fall colors were absolutely beautiful and we drove through several Amish villages during our day trips. Everyone was so friendly and helpful... we really didn't want to go home! We had dinner Monday night down the street at Antler's, and the "build your own mac-n-cheese" coupled with a Michigan-brewed beer hit the spot! Wednesday night included a stop at the Corner Sweet Shop for sandwiches and ice cream, but otherwise we ate our meals in the cottage. There is a grocery store extremely close for most everything you need, and you can find a Meijer, Walmart, and other stores in Big Rapids, which is less than a half hour away. The cottage is fully-equipped to handle any meal regardless of size. There isn't enough room here to describe all the positives with renting this cottage, but the icing on the cake was the attentiveness of Bethany! We really appreciate how pleasant and helpful she was, even answering a question by email during our stay! We would most certainly recommend the cottage for anyone looking for a beautiful view from a place that has everything you need, while having more than enough activities to keep everyone as busy as they want to be! We'll be back!"
