  • A wonderful place to get away from it all!

"My husband and I had a great time in this delightful cottage! It's small, but not too small - the perfect size for just the two of us and our little dog. It's very well maintained and clean. We had lots of privacy, too. We practically had the beach to ourselves the whole time. There were a few people on the weekend, but during the week I took a very long walk on the beach all by myself and I didn't see another person the whole time. The beach is beautiful and we did go swimming on sunny days even though the water was cold! My husband enjoyed playing golf at a couple nearby courses and we had fun going to Muskegon State Park (just a few miles down the road) for hikes in the woods. In late September the sun sets by 7:30 but we managed to enjoy the evenings watching movies on the DVD player. There are plenty of restaurants within a 20 minute drive if you don't feel like cooking, but the kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal. My only issue with the cottage was the sliding screen door was a bit difficult to slide and the screen was just starting to rip along the edge - there are a lot of mosquitos so intact screens are essential! Remember to pack the bug spray if you plan to spend any amount of time in the woods - the breezes on the beach blow all the bugs away! The steps to the beach are pretty steep so they might be difficult for an elderly or really out of shape person. I will definitely consider returning to this lovely, cozy, clean, pet-friendly cottage!"

  • Charming and Secluded

"The Sandpiper Cottage is very well appointed and cozy and the location is perfect. The beachfront is gorgeous and uncrowded and it never felt as though we were sharing the space with the owners or guests from the other cottages. We had GORGEOUS views of the sunset and lovely bonfires around the fire pit every night. The photos accurately represent the rooms, the decor and the scenery. The beds are full sized beds, not queens and they do fill up nearly all the space in the bedrooms with no additional floor space for an air mattress. I would recommend the cottage for a party of 4, rather than 6, as the third sleeping area is the roll-out sofa in the living room. The living room is the area shown in the photos and the sofa bed is also the only sofa so it's not ideal for use as a third bedroom all the time. The sofa bed is best for a one-time overnight guest or small children. We had a party of 6 adults and had no problems sharing one bathroom as it is a nice size. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and is laid out well for several people to be working in it at once. This is really a place to spend time in the outdoor spaces and on the private beach, though, as it is very small. It rained one day during our trip and it was hard to share such intimate space with 6 adults, however 2 couples could be completely comfortable. We are a late night group and we were very lucky the neighbors in the Evergreen Cottage never complained. I would recommend larger groups (or potentially loud groups) also reserve the Evergreen Cottage for the additional space and privacy. Loading in groceries is not super easy, but if you are wearing the right shoes the walk is not that bad. There is ample firewood on site for evening camp fires and the garbage and recycling are emptied daily, which is a nice feature as I have stayed at other properties that offered no firewood or trash service. The one thing guests should prepare for is the lack of internet or cell phone service. Although not a rustic cabin, the location IS remote and we had no cell phone or internet service the entire stay. Some cell service could be acquired at the end of the driveway but for most internet usage we had to drive about a half a mile to the Red Rooster Tavern to try to get a signal. Anyone needing to work while on vacation should plan ahead for this. This is a great place to relax and unplug and enjoy the beauty of a Michigan Summer."

  • Wonderful Weekend!

"This house is exactly as it says, 'Charming'! We rented this house at the last minute over Labor Day weekend and Sharon was very accommodating. We met her and Jim at the house and they showed us around and stayed and talked to us for a bit. We had 4 adults and 3 girls and it was perfect. The girls slept in the twin bedroom and there was a rollaway in the basement that fit right between the beds. The back yard was nice and big for games- bean bag toss, bocce ball and on the last night we enjoyed a bonfire. Everyday we walked into town either for dinner, farmers market and/or shopping. The location was wonderful for all of this. It's farther to the beach so we choose to drive and that worked fine. The bathroom was a nice size with double sinks. Several other houses we looked at just had a pedestal for the sink and that doesn't leave any room for toiletries. There was plenty of drawers in this bathroom for storage. Thank you Sharon and Jim for being so accommodating and for sharing your home with us! I highly recommend this house."

  • New years eve with friends

"We were looking for a place where we and our friends could stay for News years Eve. We all have children ranging from ages 2-12. We didn't want a hotel because we all wanted to be together in one space. This house was perfect! First of all, the house is incredible! There were a few Christmas items that we "put out of reach" due to little children, but everything else was amazing! The games in the basement kept everyone busy (adults and children) and the hot tub was used many times throughout our stay. There were enough beds for all 18 of us and they were all quite comfortable. We obviously could not take part in any of the outdoor activities because of the weather, but we would love to come back here during the summer months. The house hosts are very nice and friendly. We can't wait to come back!"
