"It is not easy to entertain young teenagers AND stressed- out parents on family vacations. This property had the perfect combination for all of us: 1) Enough privacy. 2) Adventure. The house has special, fun, useful features: loft with the pool table and hideaway bedroom, the spiral stairs, the long boardwalk and a couple of small dune hills to climb to the beach. Incidentally, it was pretty cool for swimming during our week but we still enjoyed the beach every day (and our kids braved the cold water almost daily :). We also found lots of fun activities nearby. 3) Great Wi-Fi. We are just happier if we don't completely unplug. No cell phone service meant we were completely in control of the contact we made with the outside world through internet access and it was ideal. Our guestbook entry read: "We so enjoyed sharing your property. Thank you for your hospitality. I’m not sure how we could have had a better vacation. It is so beautiful here! We highly recommend: Country Dairy in New Era, Jamesport Brewery in Ludington and The Wood Shed bike rental in Mears. Thank you!""Guest: Susan J. "What a great house for a big family or extended family! Bedrooms: 5 bedrooms, including the great kids' room, complete with loft. Master bedroom is large and very comfortable! There is a second smaller master bedroom downstairs as well. The other 2 bedrooms both have twin beds. Bathrooms - 4 bathrooms - 2 with showers (one with a wonderful rain shower head) One bathroom has a very nice Jacuzzi, which got a lot of use! Kitchen - the kitchen is very nice; upscale appliances, any dish, pot pan, utensil, etc. that you can think of. A nice table that holds around 7-8 people comfortably plus some bar stools by the counter. The kitchen opens into the... Dining Room - large table that holds 12 people. A must for a large family vacation. Fireplace. Living room - comfortable with large tv and gaming system. Fireplace in living room. 2 large couches, perfect for chatting or playing games on the coffee table. Upstairs family room area - we loved this room!! Books and games, just a great casual area, has window seat that easily accommodates 2 adults, with their tea and books. Also has two comfortable chairs for sitting as well. A nice place to be by yourself but because it's right above the living room, you still feel like you are part of the "action." Beach - the beach is wonderful! There were 4-5 beach chairs in the living room closet. We loved the "singing sand" of Lake Michigan and what a nice beach to just relax and enjoy the view. The water temps were very cold, but that didn't stop my 12 yo from going in. The sand is very soft and the views are beautiful. The Castle - small lending library open to guests. Plus it's a Castle, how cool is that? A nice walk from the house. The house is not close to any other homes, which gives you great views and a lot of privacy. The owner will email you a large document of directions, instructions, etc. Any question we had about anything that week was answered in there. Especially pay attention to the directions; it's a little tricky at the end and her directions were invaluable. Do NOT plan to arrive after dark; you don't want to be driving that road for the first time at night. The owner was also very responsive throughout the whole process. If we were ever back in the area we would love to come back!"Guest: Dorothy H. Date of Stay: May 2014 Review Submitted: June 2, 2014View listing
"We had a great weekend in this family oriented home with our daughter and her husband and 2 grandchildren, both 3 and under. While the temp was in the 50's and low 60's we couldn't swim, but had the private beach all to ourselves. We recommend taking kids to Tunnel Park, and Holland State park. Don't miss the farmer's market. Shopping downtown is really a pleasure. If we go back for another weekend or a full week vacation we will definitely check on this rental first."Guest: Stan B. "We had a family gathering and needed an extra house to hold 11 adults. We chose this house based on past reviews and were not disappointed. This house is true to its advertising. This lovely home held us all with adequate room to gather and play games and eat together. We did some patio sitting, grilling, and enjoyed the state beach park located down the road. It was a perfect base for roaming the lake shore and lake resort towns. Easy to get to groceries. Quiet walks to park via back roads and on bikes. Home has everything you would have at your own house plus more! As a guest, you will love it!"Guest: Sis Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: September 2, 2014View listing
West Central Travel Tips
Visiting Michigan’s West Central Region
West Central Michigan covers the counties of Lake, Mecosta, Newaygo, Mason and Osceola. Its major destinations are Grand Rapids and Grand Haven vacation rentals, along with Spring Lake. To get here, visitors may find Gerald R. Ford Airport, near Grand Rapids, a convenient entry point. US Highway 31 runs along the coast of West Central Michigan, with US Highway 10 connecting the region to Interstate 75.
The weather here ranges from very warm, humid summers to very cold, snowy, winters. The weather is affected by nearby Lake Michigan, pushing the temperatures up in summer and down in winter. This area is perfect for relaxing family holidays with much to do and see, whether it is the sun and sand or the deep snow and great skiing.
Fun in the Sun and Sand or Snow
Choosing a lakeside home in West Central Michigan will be perfect for fishing. Grand Haven is known as the most chartered boat port on Lake Michigan, with varieties of salmon, trout, perch and bass. Visitors will find lots of fishing options, from the shore of the lake, on a boat or heading inland to one of the rivers around the area.
Of course, for families, West Central Michigan lodging near the lake makes a perfect environment for children. Long, hot summer days can be spent along the shoreline, enjoying the water and playing in the sand. Pick up a kite at Mackinaw Kites and Toys and the children can spend hours flying their kites along the sandy beaches.
Winters here bring the perfect conditions for sports such as cross-country skiing, with over 3,000 miles of trails to explore. There are green, blue and black diamond runs for those who love downhill skiing. If snowmobiling is your preferred activity, you will find a West Central Michigan vacation home is close to over 30,000 miles of undeveloped trails in the state and federal forests.
What Adventures Await near West Central Michigan Vacation Rentals
While the beaches are wonderful and visitors may be tempted to spend each and every day just enjoying the lake, there is a variety of other excursions and trips around the region. The Tri-Cities Historical Museum has Native American and early settler exhibits. Here, visitors can discover more about early medicine, agriculture, maritime activities, and the life of a lumberjack. Best of all, it is free! A great day for children is a day at Imagination Station with its large outdoor play area. For an activity day, head to Yogi Bears Fun Zone for miniature golf, bumper boats and miniature golf. Zoos are always popular with children and a visit to the 110-acre John Ball Zoological Garden is worth a visit to see over 1,000 different animals.
One "not to be missed" trips should be the Gerald R. Ford Museum. The children may not be enthusiastic but once they arrive, they will change their minds. Here visitors can walk through the Oval Office, attend a White House State Dinner and even see the actual burglar tools used during the Watergate scandal! It is truly a living history day.
West Central Michigan has many miles of abandoned railroad tracks which have now been made into bike trails. The rides take visitors through beautiful woodland, wetlands, across rivers and around Lake Michigan. Even non-cyclists will enjoy biking in such beautiful surroundings and it is a great activity for families.
Why Choose West Central Michigan Lake Houses?
There are many reasons why visitors choose to rent a home here rather than opting for other types of accommodation. Two of the main ones are freedom and space. These properties offer the freedom to come and go as you please and the space to relax after returning from a great day of adventures. Each home is well-equipped with everything necessary for a great home environment. Many go that little bit further and provide renters with wonderful additional luxuries, such as DVDs, games systems and BBQs. Visitors may find their vacation home is so comfortable, they will not want to leave it!
