  • Incomparable setting!

"I'm from a family of 7 siblings (6 sisters and 1 brother). Every year for the past 20 years the sisters (our brother would join us now and then for a night which he did this year) have met somewhere for a weekend away - almost always on Lake Michigan. We all agreed that Tony's place has been the absolute best! We rented his home in October of 2012 when one of our sisters was very ill in the last stages of breast cancer and wanted a place right ON the beach. It was great then and even better this year since Tony did some remodeling that we definitely noticed - new linens, new towels, repainting, lovely prints on the walls - just a really clean look to it with lots of light! The kitchen was better equipped as well and is situated in a perfect area so the ones cooking can still be in the loop of everything else going on. The bedrooms are spacious with three of them having stunning views of Lake Michigan. I had the privilege of sleeping in the master bedroom on the 3rd floor and waking up every morning to the view of Big Red was awesome! We spent every afternoon soaking up the sun on the lovely front deck. Even though none of us are TV watchers and never once turned it on there was a huge flat screen TV in the living area plus a wonderfully cozy gas fireplace. As one sister wrote after the weekend..."a dream come true. The weather was perfect...Indian summer the whole weekend. The white sand and blue sky and water have seared beautiful images in my mind which I hope will last for a long time." I totally agree with her words. We hiked the nearby woods, hills and dunes, walked on the beach...what could be better? We have already booked Tony's place for next October :) Honestly, you really couldn't ask for anything better. Thanks, Tony, for making this a very memorable weekend!"

  • Charming and Secluded

"The Sandpiper Cottage is very well appointed and cozy and the location is perfect. The beachfront is gorgeous and uncrowded and it never felt as though we were sharing the space with the owners or guests from the other cottages. We had GORGEOUS views of the sunset and lovely bonfires around the fire pit every night. The photos accurately represent the rooms, the decor and the scenery. The beds are full sized beds, not queens and they do fill up nearly all the space in the bedrooms with no additional floor space for an air mattress. I would recommend the cottage for a party of 4, rather than 6, as the third sleeping area is the roll-out sofa in the living room. The living room is the area shown in the photos and the sofa bed is also the only sofa so it's not ideal for use as a third bedroom all the time. The sofa bed is best for a one-time overnight guest or small children. We had a party of 6 adults and had no problems sharing one bathroom as it is a nice size. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and is laid out well for several people to be working in it at once. This is really a place to spend time in the outdoor spaces and on the private beach, though, as it is very small. It rained one day during our trip and it was hard to share such intimate space with 6 adults, however 2 couples could be completely comfortable. We are a late night group and we were very lucky the neighbors in the Evergreen Cottage never complained. I would recommend larger groups (or potentially loud groups) also reserve the Evergreen Cottage for the additional space and privacy. Loading in groceries is not super easy, but if you are wearing the right shoes the walk is not that bad. There is ample firewood on site for evening camp fires and the garbage and recycling are emptied daily, which is a nice feature as I have stayed at other properties that offered no firewood or trash service. The one thing guests should prepare for is the lack of internet or cell phone service. Although not a rustic cabin, the location IS remote and we had no cell phone or internet service the entire stay. Some cell service could be acquired at the end of the driveway but for most internet usage we had to drive about a half a mile to the Red Rooster Tavern to try to get a signal. Anyone needing to work while on vacation should plan ahead for this. This is a great place to relax and unplug and enjoy the beauty of a Michigan Summer."

  • Perfect affordable escape

"Absolutely perfect! Had several guests out to enjoy the weekend and they all awed over the affordability and the location and the perfectness! It was super clean, fully stocked with firewood, lawn chairs, kitchen everything, blankets, towels, just bring your clothes and you will be set! Dock was a short walk from cottage but beautiful. The water is very sandy with no seaweed perfect for kids to swim right off dock. We decided to not rent the pontoon but was wonderful that it was made available if we wanted to. Renter was so hospitable. Met us at cottage to show us around and make sure we had all our questions answered and we knew where Dock was. Kids loved the tree swing in the front yard. Many memories were made, thanks for an enjoyable time!"

  • Awesome Family Time

"This condo was a great place for a large family group. We had plenty of space for kids and adults. We were planning on just sleeping here and doing things in the area but were pleasantly surprised by the amount of complimentary activities available at the resort. (fun at the arcade, back Forty, and walking around the grounds) We went to Silver Lake Dunes and Pentwater Beach. If we go back to this area we would stay here again for sure and plan to take in more of the resort activities. (kids crafts, horseback riding, swimming hole) My only recommendation would be to being your own garbage bags. We only had two and they were so thin that they broke open in transport to the garbage cans in the parking garage. Beds were very comfortable."

West Central Travel Tips

Visiting Michigan’s West Central Region

West Central Michigan covers the counties of Lake, Mecosta, Newaygo, Mason and Osceola. Its major destinations are Grand Rapids and Grand Haven vacation rentals, along with Spring Lake. To get here, visitors may find Gerald R. Ford Airport, near Grand Rapids, a convenient entry point. US Highway 31 runs along the coast of West Central Michigan, with US Highway 10 connecting the region to Interstate 75.

The weather here ranges from very warm, humid summers to very cold, snowy, winters. The weather is affected by nearby Lake Michigan, pushing the temperatures up in summer and down in winter. This area is perfect for relaxing family holidays with much to do and see, whether it is the sun and sand or the deep snow and great skiing.

Fun in the Sun and Sand or Snow

Choosing a lakeside home in West Central Michigan will be perfect for fishing. Grand Haven is known as the most chartered boat port on Lake Michigan, with varieties of salmon, trout, perch and bass. Visitors will find lots of fishing options, from the shore of the lake, on a boat or heading inland to one of the rivers around the area.

Of course, for families, West Central Michigan lodging near the lake makes a perfect environment for children. Long, hot summer days can be spent along the shoreline, enjoying the water and playing in the sand. Pick up a kite at Mackinaw Kites and Toys and the children can spend hours flying their kites along the sandy beaches.

Winters here bring the perfect conditions for sports such as cross-country skiing, with over 3,000 miles of trails to explore. There are green, blue and black diamond runs for those who love downhill skiing. If snowmobiling is your preferred activity, you will find a West Central Michigan vacation home is close to over 30,000 miles of undeveloped trails in the state and federal forests.

What Adventures Await near West Central Michigan Vacation Rentals

While the beaches are wonderful and visitors may be tempted to spend each and every day just enjoying the lake, there is a variety of other excursions and trips around the region. The Tri-Cities Historical Museum has Native American and early settler exhibits. Here, visitors can discover more about early medicine, agriculture, maritime activities, and the life of a lumberjack. Best of all, it is free! A great day for children is a day at Imagination Station with its large outdoor play area. For an activity day, head to Yogi Bears Fun Zone for miniature golf, bumper boats and miniature golf. Zoos are always popular with children and a visit to the 110-acre John Ball Zoological Garden is worth a visit to see over 1,000 different animals.

One "not to be missed" trips should be the Gerald R. Ford Museum. The children may not be enthusiastic but once they arrive, they will change their minds. Here visitors can walk through the Oval Office, attend a White House State Dinner and even see the actual burglar tools used during the Watergate scandal! It is truly a living history day.

West Central Michigan has many miles of abandoned railroad tracks which have now been made into bike trails. The rides take visitors through beautiful woodland, wetlands, across rivers and around Lake Michigan. Even non-cyclists will enjoy biking in such beautiful surroundings and it is a great activity for families.

Why Choose West Central Michigan Lake Houses?

There are many reasons why visitors choose to rent a home here rather than opting for other types of accommodation. Two of the main ones are freedom and space. These properties offer the freedom to come and go as you please and the space to relax after returning from a great day of adventures. Each home is well-equipped with everything necessary for a great home environment. Many go that little bit further and provide renters with wonderful additional luxuries, such as DVDs, games systems and BBQs. Visitors may find their vacation home is so comfortable, they will not want to leave it!
