  • Everything as described, a quiet getaway!

"What you see in the pictures is what you'll find when you arrive, everything is just as described. Brian is a great host, concerned to make sure everything is as expected - and Hank (the dog) couldn't be any happier to see new friends. The lake is wonderfully peaceful, clear and beautiful - the most boats we ever saw on the lake when we were out other than our own was a grand total of 3. 80% of the shore-land looks like the BWCA or Canada, very remote & wild. The lake is small, but that means less time spent looking for new spots to fish and less gas to burn. We saw bald eagles every day, the loons were there to serenade us, we saw beavers and deer as well. While we didn't set any records with our fishing, we always could catch something (bass and northern pike mostly) and the crappie bite was very dependable every evening. The locals that we met that had places on the lake were very friendly and helpful. Little kids would be able to catch panfish off the dock (little ones) all day long without any problem. There's no cell phone service, no TV, and that's all part of what makes this great. It's a short drive into Marcel for essentials, or an easy drive to Grand Rapids to visit a bigger town with the big box stores. The cabin is small, but it doesn't claim to be otherwise, and we found everything clean and orderly, and well stocked with the essentials. If you are looking for a low tech, relaxing vacation - then you'll certainly enjoy your stay. We would recommend this property to anyone looking for what Brian so accurately describes. If you want something fancy, look elsewhere - but if you are looking for an old fashioned retreat you will enjoy your stay."

  • Great Kitchen

"Thanks so much, Sherry, for letting us use your home for our family reunion. Your instructions were very clear which I appreciated. The flow of the living area was just what we hoped for. The kitchen is a dream with two sinks which is great when several people are cooking. View of the lake was great!!! The tub in the master was used by all. Sherry is very responsive and easy to work with- with great recommendations for dining, jet ski rental, etc. My only disappointment was the low wattage light bulbs in the master bedroom - couldn't read at night."

  • Minnesota get together

"We had a wonderful time....It was myself my three daughters and 5 grandchildren (7 yr old, 4 yr old and 3 two year olds. So the layout was perfect to have the kitchen and the living space connected so we could cook and talk and still watch all the kids. It was clean and easy to keep clean and relax with wood floors for babies with Sippy cups. Having the back yard was great for the little ones also ...then bedtime and babies upstairs in pack and plays and grownup's could have a great time downstairs. The owner was also very helpful in providing some of the extras we needed - highchairs, DVD players and extra patio chairs. Plus we did the State Fair and had a great time with some of our closest friends who live in Minn."

Minnesota Travel Tips

Visitors to Minnesota Vacation Rentals

Minnesota is a scenic state. The landscape is dotted by numerous lakes, both large and small. The northeastern state border is the shoreline of Lake Superior and a region that is home to several National and State Parks. Minnesota attracts visitors that enjoy nature and the outdoors. Fishing is probably one of the most popular leisure activities and this can be enjoyed on the many lakes and rivers in the state. Most visitors who go to the rural areas are from the Minneapolis St. Paul metropolitan area. Families often hitch up their boats and head to the lakeshore for a weekend or summer vacation. The various lake areas are also ideal if you are looking for a rural escape. They are where you can put your feet up and relax in good company. There are many remote and scenically beautiful vacation destinations that are ideal for honeymooners to enjoy an affordable vacation.

Seasons to Visit Minnesota Lake Houses

If you enjoy boating fishing and other water sport activities, the summer months are definitely the best time of year to visit Minnesota vacation homes on the lakes. The longer days and warm temperatures are ideal for fun days out on the water with the family. Even in the colder winter months, there are plenty of fun activities. The winter season starts in November and depending on the seasonal weather runs to March or April. The northern regions frequently have snowfalls during this time. Many of the regions have snowmobile trails and cross country skiing routes you can follow when there have been good snowfalls. If you plan to visit the Twin Cities, many of the attractions can be enjoyed any time of year. The many great museums, art galleries and retail outlets are open throughout the year. The busiest season is typically during the summer months of June and July so if you want to avoid the crowds, choose an alternate season to travel.

Getting to Minnesota Cottages

The main travel hub into Minnesota is the Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport. The airport is located between the Twin Cities and has good public transportation and road links with both cities. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights that arrive at MSP International on a daily basis. The airport has flight connections with most major cities in North America so finding a direct flight should not be difficult. Once in Minnesota, one of the best ways to get around is by car unless you will be remaining in the cities. In the Twin Cities, there is an extensive public transportation system of bus, metro and rail links that makes getting around easy. If you plan to visit the lake areas then it's probably best to hire a car and drive there. There is a good network of roads in Minneapolis and most are well marked. Most vacation destinations are within 150 mile radius of the Twin Cities so driving distances are not far. There are rail links between major towns and cities, and information on schedules can be obtained from the Amtrak offices in Minneapolis or St. Paul.

Vacation Homes in Minnesota

Many of the vacation homes are located on the lakes dotted around the countryside. The homes range from cozy log cabins to more stylish and modern buildings. It is almost certain that you will be able to find something to suit your personal taste and style. Characteristically, many of the homes are large and spacious and can accommodate several adults or extended families. Well-equipped kitchens help to make vacation catering easy. Large living areas are ideal for socializing.
