"This property felt like home the minute we opened the door. It was very convenient to stay right on the lake that we were fishing on although we could have stayed with family. It had everything we would need to enjoy a week stay and the owner was very easy to work with and very helpful. We really had a great stay and would recommend this property for a great place to enjoy the lake."Guest: ro Date of Stay: January 2014 Review Submitted: February 4, 2014View listing

"This was our second time at this beautiful lake front home. The pictures, great as the are, do not capture it! Each room tastefully decorated, and so inviting. Clean! Let me put that in capital letters; CLEAN! The sheets smelled like they had hung out on the line, soaking up the summer sun. But they do have a laundry room with a front loading washer and dryer. The kitchen is fully equipped with top of the line appliances, the fridge even has a water and ice disperser, and I don't need to tell you how handy that was for my grandchildren! Reverse osmosis water for all of your drinking needs and it makes the best coffee! The kitchen is stocked with everything you need. My mom (83) slept on the sofa bed in the front room and said it was very comfortable. This was her first time here and she had never heard a loon before, and the loons did not disappoint! We got up early, often before dawn, to hear the first liquid calls of the loons. The mist rising off the lake and beautiful sunrise. We sat on the deck with our first cup of coffee and just marveled at the creativity of God. Besides the loons (who put on quite a show, right in front of the dock one morning!) There were hummingbirds, nuthatches, downys and red bellied wood peckers. A couple of mornings a kingfisher surveyed the world from his perch on top of the neighbor's flag pole. Boating. tubing, fishing. (Northerns, bass, crappies and sunfish filled our bucket!) There is a fire pit, marshmallow forks, firewood and kindling provided. Beach toys, paddle boat, row boat and a pontoon boat is available. We brought our won boat and the launch site was close by and the dock easily accommodated our boat. A great park nearby, and Sauk Centre has everything you need for shopping, including some neat antique stores. We took the girls to nearby Osakis, to a place called Just Like Grandma's. Delicious food, fun shops. We made reservations so we could eat outside and the weather was simply perfect. Lots of wonderful memories. Dave and Judy are so helpful and work to accommodate your needs. Like the pictures, words are not enough, trust me, it is fantastic. You will love it!"Guest: ohsohappy Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: August 4, 2014View listing
"We had a great time! Great for adults and kids! Spacious, great backyard, well maintained house, fully stocked. You can tell that the owners take pride in it by the way it's decorated and clean. Alexandria Travel Tips
Alexandria Vacation Rentals: The Perfect Bases for Exploring Minnesota'
Alexandria is in the heart of Minnesota, close to a number of interconnecting small lakes, including Lake Winona, Lake Agnes, Lake Henry, Lake Victoria and the larger Lake Geneva. The historic downtown district has a busy calendar of events, including the Awake the Lakes Festival on Memorial Day Weekend, the Vikingland Band Festival in June, Art in the Park in July, and the Minnesota Food and Wine Festival in September. The town has plenty of small shops and restaurants to meet most requirements.
Things to Do from Alexandria Lake Houses
This flat scenic area is ideal for cycling and hiking with miles of footpaths and bike trails. There are also plenty of antique and specialty shops. The 300 lakes in the area offer great boating and water sports opportunities in the summer. Fishing enthusiasts can catch walleye, bass, perch and panfish, among other species of freshwater fish. In the winter, the area has miles of tracks for snowmobiling, cross country and downhill skiing and the latest craze – snow tubing!
The great outdoors areas are ideal for wildlife and bird watching, especially along the lake's shoreline and wetlands. Sandhill cranes, prairie chickens, buntings, grosbeaks, owls, hawks, warblers and swans can all be seen in the area. Larger wildlife includes wild wolves, bears and moose.
More organized family activities can include a day at the famous Runestone Museum which houses a huge slab of greywacke covered in ancient script, or the newly opened Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum.
Exploring the Neighborhoods Around Alexandria Cottages
The 150-mile long Otter Trail covers many local areas of natural beauty in this circular drive. Head for Fergus Falls, Pelican Rapids, Perham and Battle Lake, where artists often set up stalls showcasing their work. Other beauty spots in the area are the forests and lakes of Maplewood State Park, Glendalough State Park and the panoramic overlook at Inspiration Peak. The historic Phelps Mill and millpond were built in 1889 and make a lovely photograph.
Maple Lake has over 866 acres of spring-fed waters, giving it exceptional clarity. It is ideal for boat trips, swimming, or fishing from the dock.
The Weather and Climate at Minnesota Vacation Rentals
Minnesota is a great place to visit for outdoor activities from late April through October. Summers are warm with temperatures often topping 80 F. There is rainfall in Minnesota all year-round but the wettest month is June. The winter months have heavy snowfall from December to March, with temperatures well below freezing.
Great Reasons for Choosing Minnesota Vacation Rentals
Visitors to Alexandria are likely to be seeking outdoor pursuits, fishing and water-based activities. Minnesota vacation rentals offer plenty of space for storing bicycles, kayaks and other equipment to make your vacation fun. Vacation rentals are usually far better located than hotels, in secluded woodland settings and with lakeside views from their private decks. With your own waterfront home-away-from-home, you can swim and fish from your own dock, grill outdoors and do a host of activities which are not available from a hotel room. Make the most of the indoor and outdoor space offered with a vacation rental, especially for those with children. Best of all, a vacation rental often works out to be much cheaper than comparable hotel rooms, especially if you prepare meals and barbecues at home rather than eating out.
Getting to Alexandria Vacation Rentals
They say "Alexandria is easy to get to and hard to leave" but as far as transportation, it is very easy to reach. The Hector International Airport at Fargo, North Dakota is about 99 miles from the center of Alexandria; the drive is also very scenic.
