Recent Lake Minnetonka reviews

  • Exceeded all expectations!

"My review is VERY overdue (sorry, Linda!). I stayed in this cottage in the late Fall and it was amazing. We were coming from the East and I was hopeful that it would be 'ok'...I had never stayed at a vrbo property and didn't know the area. I hoped at the least it would be clean. This cottage FAR exceeded my expectations. It was a 5 star property, but better. It had a more personal connection. As other reviewers mentioned, it was recently redone and everything was designed and built with such character. The finishings - the towels, sheets, etc. - are of the highest quality. I want Linda to come redo my own home! Linda was such a gracious host. The cottage was prepared perfectly for our arrival and she gave us great recommendations for local restaurants and attractions. I hope to stay again during a next trip to MN! Thank you for everything, Linda!"

  • Great Family Vacation Spot

"My family & parents recently stayed here on Cook's Bay & had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful & clean with all the needed amenities. When the weather wasn't cooperating for fishing or boating MOA was just 20 minutes away for a fun filled day. I would recommned a fishing guide if you are new to this lake, we had a great experience with Take the Bait Guide Service, & learned many tips for fishing in Cook's Bay. We have stayed in other rentals in MN past years & this one has been our favorite yet! Another plus is that the owner replies promptly with any questions you have for your stay. 100% recommend this for your next stay in MN."

  • Highly recommended! 6 adults, 8 kids for family reunion

"This home is a unique property with a gorgeous view of a secluded bay on Lake Minnetonka. Older home, well maintained, ample space, private, conveniently located. We rented a boat, kayaks, and paddle boards. Great kitchen, huge living room with beautiful windows. Close to town of Excelsior, easy to get to from airport. Loved it."

  • Title is fine

"Great location except for trying to go for a bike ride or walk with stroller. Coming out of the area where the house is located is difficult with traffic. Would be nice to have a side walk in that section so it is not so dangerous for about 2 blocks. After that you can go into a neighborhood with playgrounds and trails and it is great. The house was great. It was pretty clean and we received fast service for a plugged bathtub and request to get the dock in. Could have used more deep cleaning and dusting although we understand the tight timetable turn around. The interior photo's were very accurate. The exterior photo's were a bit more unclear. We did not realize that there was a road/bridge directly across the water that you see when sitting outside but the noise was minimal. I would recommend it to a friend and actually a friend came by and said they would keep the place in mind after they move this summer for when they want to come back to Minnesota for a visit. Como park zoo, and Mall of America were places we visited and enjoyed. Also, enjoyed the nearby boardwalk and parks.. All in all the house was great and we appreciated the wonderfully equipped kitchen and bathrooms with shampoo, toilet paper and paper towels. Great access to the water from the dock and for swimming or fishing or boating. Nice that it was located in the slow wake zone of the lake so that there was little wake/noise from passing boats. Wonderful outdoor patio, gas grill and fire-pit. Beautiful sunrises over the lake."

Big Island Travel Tips

Relax at Big Island Vacation Rentals

From the comfort of Big Island vacation rentals, visitors to Lake Minnetonka can enjoy a variety of activities like canoeing, boating, and water skiing. Since its popularity began in the 1850s, the area has provided a summer retreat for wealthy families from the South and Europe. Its local residents include the well-to-do of Minneapolis, located 20 miles to the west.

Join in the Fun with Big Island Lodging

From January to December, Big Island hosts events enjoyed by locals and travelers on its 14,000 acres of water. Nearly 2,000 boats fill the lake during its 4th of July celebration. In the winter, guests can participate in the Chilly Open, a golf tournament held on the lake's frozen surface. Visitors staying at Big Island lodging in mid-August can relax in the party atmosphere of the "Sacrifice to the Sun God," which celebrates the end of the summer season. Even without a festival or event, Lake Minnetonka provides fine dining and shopping.

Live like a Local with Big Island Vacation Rentals

In Lake Minnetonka, lake houses line the 140 miles of shore, offering quick, and sometimes private, access to the lake. Local businesses rent equipment like boats, canoes, jet skis, and water skis, so visitors can enjoy the secluded coves along the lake. While downtown hosts docks and marinas, there is a 70-foot-long limit on watercraft.

Enjoy local Attractions Close to Big Island Lodging

Visitors staying in Big Island vacation rentals can take advantage of the amenities of a home by packing a picnic lunch or dinner and enjoying the nearby attractions, including the Excelsior Trolley, the Wayzata Trolley, and the Steamship Minnehaha. Close by, guests can escape to the outdoor haven of Noerenberg Gardens or one of the parks in the area. Other entertainment includes dinner theaters, movies, and music.
