"We were looking for a great place to have an outside wedding up in the North Shore area. After finding pictures on the internet, we contacted the owners of the Grand Retreat, to see if they allowed it. They did indeed, in fact they offered us a weekend to check it out ahead of time. We fell in love with the place. But because it was in December, we really couldn't scope out the land as well. So in June, when my family and I were camping in Schroeder, I asked if we could check out the property again to get a feel for the wedding layout. They aloud us to another quick visit, when there was no occupancy. When I asked for recommendations for an officient, and about catering options, they were right on it. I had answers right away, or within a day if they weren't sure. When the time grew closer to our wedding date, they were in constant contact with us offering any help we needed. Our wedding day ended up being beautiful! We created great memories in this beautiful place, with great outside pictures along the creek and wilderness type settings. The cabin was very spacious for the whole crowd and for all of us to sleep. Our family, relatives and friends were very impressed with the Grand Retreat. During our week stay, we enjoyed both indoor and outdoor fires. We enjoyed sitting on the deck over looking the back yard, listening to the sound of the creek. We also did plenty of exploring in the surounding areas. We even drove up to the border and found the beautiful waterfall of the Pigeon River, in the Grand Portage State Park. I can't wait until we can visit again. I very much recommend a family stay or even a special event here. Thanks again for the great stay here!!"

"My family stayed at this cabin last summer. There were 15 of us and we were all able to stay comfortably with an additional air mattress downstairs. The cabin is spacious, clean, and beautiful inside and out. We have started a family tradition at Burns lake and we all look forward to returning in a couple weeks.
Burns Lake cabin is great for kids! They can swim and fish off the dock, run in the yard, go on family hikes (sporting fancy and very exciting compass whistles provided by the cabin owners ), kayak, and see all kinds of wild life.
All you need is bug spray, sunscreen, food, and family to have a great time. The lake is also big enough to tube and ski.
Fall asleep to the sound of loons instead of other campers at this private and quiet oasis. A great price for the space!
NOTE: There are stairs down to the lake so this could be an obstacle for those with disabilities."

"What you see in the pictures is what you'll find when you arrive, everything is just as described. Brian is a great host, concerned to make sure everything is as expected - and Hank (the dog) couldn't be any happier to see new friends. The lake is wonderfully peaceful, clear and beautiful - the most boats we ever saw on the lake when we were out other than our own was a grand total of 3. 80% of the shore-land looks like the BWCA or Canada, very remote & wild. The lake is small, but that means less time spent looking for new spots to fish and less gas to burn.
We saw bald eagles every day, the loons were there to serenade us, we saw beavers and deer as well. While we didn't set any records with our fishing, we always could catch something (bass and northern pike mostly) and the crappie bite was very dependable every evening. The locals that we met that had places on the lake were very friendly and helpful. Little kids would be able to catch panfish off the dock (little ones) all day long without any problem. There's no cell phone service, no TV, and that's all part of what makes this great. It's a short drive into Marcel for essentials, or an easy drive to Grand Rapids to visit a bigger town with the big box stores. The cabin is small, but it doesn't claim to be otherwise, and we found everything clean and orderly, and well stocked with the essentials. If you are looking for a low tech, relaxing vacation - then you'll certainly enjoy your stay. We would recommend this property to anyone looking for what Brian so accurately describes. If you want something fancy, look elsewhere - but if you are looking for an old fashioned retreat you will enjoy your stay."
