"This is such a great getaway! Our family loved canoeing and kayaking around Seagull Lake - we were surprised at how many islands it included. We explored new areas each day. Highlights were canoeing to island for picnic, kayaking to public beach nearby to play in the sand. Hiking and picking wild raspberries and blueberries at nearby ChikWauk Nature Center. We were impressed with Seagull Outfitters for add'l kayak rental just across the lake and kids loved canoeing there to get a treat. Home was very comfortable, had everything we needed and more. The screened porch and outdoor porch were much roomier than we expected. Amazing stargazing opportunities. Also enjoyed meal at Gunflint Lodge and others nearby. We were all thrilled to see Mama moose and baby, bald eagles, loons and more. Cabin is quite a distance from town of Grand Marais, but was just the retreat we were looking for. Judy could not have been more helpful. We hope to take advantage of this great cabin again. Amazing family memories."

HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! WONDERFUL HOME ON FABULOUS LAKE!
"We have stayed in this Deer Lake home for a number of years and have absolutely fallen in love with the place. I agree with the other reviewer who said it feels like their own home. With its mix of rooms and amenities, indoor and out, it works well for families with children, or groups of adults, individually or in couples. The main house includes four separate bedrooms with bath suites, three of which have newly remodeled baths. And the owners have just added a brand new guest house with two additional bed/bath suites, each with separate entrance. In the main house, there is a good- sized living room with timber framing, high ceiling and stone fireplace. But the heart of the house is the kitchen-dining room with its large bay of windows overlooking the lake. The kitchen has great appliances (two dishwashers!) and is well stocked with cookware and utensils and an array of new and antique tableware. (In fact, the entire house is filled with a collection of antiques that is a treat all on its own.) The kitchen/dining room is one of those comfortable big rooms where you can prepare and serve a meal that feels right for only two people or for a dozen or more (or for dancing while cooking; yes, we actually find ourselves doing this). Right outside the kitchen is a large deck with a big table and umbrella (again, suitable for 2 to 12 people) overlooking the lake. On the other side of the deck is a screen house that provides a great place for daytime lounging or evening activities sans mosquitoes. The house also has a yard, fire pit (with hose nearby), several other decks, and down on the lakefront a sauna, outdoor shower (it is fabulous: I think I have yet to take a shower inside the house) and long dock with a boat lift and THE LAKE. If the house is great, the lake is an absolute marvel. They call Deer Lake the “lake of changing colors.” That sounds like one of those cheesy 1950’s promotional slogans. But in this case it is actually true. Depending on wind and time of day, the surface of the lake does actually alternate between shades of bright blue and luminous turquoise. The water is cool and crystal clear, the bottom sandy; there are bays and islands with deep woods and eagles nests; you can see fish go by below you as you swim. I could go on and on. Bottom line: This is a fabulous home from which to enjoy a fabulous lake."

"Our family of four, including two young kids, spent a wonderful week swimming, canoeing, exploring, hanging out, playing cards and having a nightly sauna. We were happy to find real mattresses on the beds (not those thin, flimsy ones) and a fully equipped kitchen. Definitely bring books and games and a desire to completely unwind!
We had a small issue and the owners were more than generous in their solution. All in all, we'd love to return (though with a motor to explore more of the big lake). Definitely recommended."

"We had the pleasure of staying at Superior Solitude towards the end of October. The pictures truly do not do the cabin justice. The cabin was extremely clean and had all the amenities one could ask for to make for a great stay. We appreciated the fact that we could bring our dog Tucker with us to enjoy this great place!! We had gone to another cabin in the Lutsen area for many years, but after staying here, we feel we have found our new getaway. Check in was a breeze and instructions very clear- thanks for sharing your beautiful cabin with us!"
