  • Quiet Get Away

"My husband and I rented this home for our 32nd Wedding anniversary. It was perfect! Michael and Lynn kindly left us a note and a wonderful bottle of wine to acknowledge our special event. They also recommended a near by butcher shop which we took advantage of. We had some fresh brats and a yummy grilled steak! The cabin is just as described, cozy, comfortable, nicely appointed, and a great place to relax, enjoy nature and renew a relationship. Our trip was in the fall so we enjoyed seeing the beautiful color in the trees from the paddleboat and our hike to Corona Lake. We also took advantage of biking on the Willard Munger trail which is close by and easy to access from Carlton, MN. We would recommend this cabin to our friends and family and would definitely stay here again! Bravo Michael and Lynn for providing a little piece of heaven on earth."

  • Peaceful

"Enjoyed the view, the walks, the water and canoe. Took some side trips on windy days. Found the cabin clean and comfortable. Walked up road 24 numerous times and saw deer and ate a lot of ice cream at Moosebirds. Had a good dinner at the Landing and a good fish fry at the Crescent. Cooked several meals over the fire pit at the cabin and enjoyed s'mores over the open fie also. Thank you for a relaxing time."

  • Perfect Family Getaway

"We've stayed at this cabin for the past 2 years in a row. We have 2 young children and the location and swimming for them is absolutely perfect. While we've stayed at other cabins before this one is the best. We walked to the marina for ice cream daily and enjoyed fishing in the lagoon as well as on the lake. Perfect swimming beach for the kids and very private."

  • Our special wedding day

"We were looking for a great place to have an outside wedding up in the North Shore area. After finding pictures on the internet, we contacted the owners of the Grand Retreat, to see if they allowed it. They did indeed, in fact they offered us a weekend to check it out ahead of time. We fell in love with the place. But because it was in December, we really couldn't scope out the land as well. So in June, when my family and I were camping in Schroeder, I asked if we could check out the property again to get a feel for the wedding layout. They aloud us to another quick visit, when there was no occupancy. When I asked for recommendations for an officient, and about catering options, they were right on it. I had answers right away, or within a day if they weren't sure. When the time grew closer to our wedding date, they were in constant contact with us offering any help we needed. Our wedding day ended up being beautiful! We created great memories in this beautiful place, with great outside pictures along the creek and wilderness type settings. The cabin was very spacious for the whole crowd and for all of us to sleep. Our family, relatives and friends were very impressed with the Grand Retreat. During our week stay, we enjoyed both indoor and outdoor fires. We enjoyed sitting on the deck over looking the back yard, listening to the sound of the creek. We also did plenty of exploring in the surounding areas. We even drove up to the border and found the beautiful waterfall of the Pigeon River, in the Grand Portage State Park. I can't wait until we can visit again. I very much recommend a family stay or even a special event here. Thanks again for the great stay here!!"
