  • Sweet is the right word!

"We loved this wonderful cabin. It was roomy and cozy at the same time! Very clean and well kept. The view of the lake is beautiful! It had a land line but no signal for cells, computers but that was a good thing because we played games, watched a couple movies, read and actually talked to one another. We will be back!"

  • Low Gear Luxury

"After two stays in the area when we realized we were wasting too much time and gas driving to and from town we decided to look for a place IN Grand Marais this summer. And did we ever find one! We parked our car upon arrival and walked about the rest of the week. The Gibbs House was hard to leave at the end of our stay. It is comfortable, tastefully decorated and the location, location, location is top notch. From the end of the driveway just coast down the hill into the heart of a cozy village with a Cape Cod vibe. The view of the harbor is breathtaking. We figured the ping pong table might come in handy as an emergency backup in the event of poor weather but our three kids, aged 17-23, played out their sibling rivalries daily in a lovingly competitive tournament. The beds are comfy, the showers are hot and the kitchen is well-equipped. And did I mention the location, location, location? Also, the landlords are communicative and accommodating. Time spent in Grand Marais at the Gibbs House is a tonic. On our last night we ate @ The Angry Trout and toasted to coming back for another dose next summer. Hopefully this review doesn't cost us our preferred dates!"

  • Great Family Get-A-Way

"Our family enjoyed our time at these Pike Lake Cabins. Our grown children slept in the main cabin and my husband and I slept in the guest cabin. We gathered in the main cabin for all of our meals. Both cabins were neat, clean, well furnished and well supplied. The photos accurately reflect the appearance and amenities of the place. Loved the location deep within the woods and on the clear lake. Very private and quiet! We felt like we had the lake to ourselves. The row boat and canoe were an added plus since it was too cold to swim this particular June. The guys caught Bass but no Pike. Our favorite spot was the screened-in boat house close to the water which gave us refuge from the mosquitoes (which were REALLY, REALLY bad this year!!!) and offered a lovely and peaceful view of the lake. We also spent each night around the fire pit with spectacular views of the starry night sky. The town of Grand Marais was only 15 minutes away. It was a fun spot to visit with quaint shops and restaurants. One of the coffee shops offered free Wi-Fi for those vacationers that need to keep connected. None of our cell phones worked on this property, but the owner provided a landline phone for local calls and in case of emergencies. So, be prepared to disconnect and just enjoy nature, we sure did! The owner was very friendly and attentive which made the rental process easy. We've been vacationing at a variety of rentals on the north shore for many, many years and found these cabins to be the best fit for all of our needs.....close to Lake Superior and its spectacular views and many hiking paths, yet secluded on a clear lake for canoeing, fishing, and swimming. We would highly recommend this property to our friends, relatives and other vacationers."

  • Get ready to relax!

"One of my favorite get-a-ways yet. I took a solo trip up to Grand Marais to decompress for a few days, and the Artist's Loft was exactly the place for this. No need to have a car (unless you plan on going hiking), it is walking distance to the local coffee shop, watering hole, restaurants, etc. One of my favorite parts was the view from the bed, as well as the clawfoot bathtub, looking right out over Lake Superior. There was also a great trail out to the lighthouse that's accessible from here. The owner was also very helpful with resources and making sure everything was up to par. It's an older place, but I enjoyed its' character a lot. I will make it back to the loft one day!"

Grand Marais is beautifully situated along the northern shore of Lake Superior, backed by the Sawtooth Mountain Range. Grand Marais means "great marsh" and historically this area would have had extensive marshes during the fur-trading era. There is a small bay and natural harbor which no doubt led to the development of the village. Lake Superior is the world's largest freshwater lake, surrounded by rocky shores and with amazing clear waters. Its tranquil summer appearance belies the storms which can blow up and have been the cause of 350 shipwrecks and many lives lost.

Grand Marais is surrounded by millions of acres of unspoiled forests and lakes, offering great outdoor activities in the quiet natural scenery. The area is popular with artisans and there are many courses offered at the Grand Marais Art Colony and the North House Folk School for all ages and abilities.
