  • Lovers of the Bear Studies done at WRI/NABC

"We came here specifically to see the NABC, as we have followed the bear studies for 4 years and contributed to the fund drives for area landmarks. This house was perfect for us! We were out on the lake everyday in the canoes/kayaks that came with the rental. The week was cloudy except for a little sun on arrival and leaving, but we still kept busy hiking local trails at Bear Head Park and Kawishawi Falls. visited the NABC and Wolf Ctr. around Ely. The house had WIFI and satellite which was great for us. There was a nice campfire which we used. We sat on the dock and watched the stars, Milky Way, and the Aurora one clear night. The kitchen was great for cooking and the beds were nice and comfy. There were a few things patched here and there, but we had all the essentials we needed. The two level living worked out nice, also, as my granddaughter and her husband were downstairs and my daughter and I slept up. There was no air conditioning but it was cool the week we were there, and we did use the fireplace a few mornings. A washer and dryer would have been nice, as the humidity didn't allow clothes to dry well outside. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing week. Loved walking out the door to a lake every morning."

  • Loved this cabin and the owners are awesome.

"We came to Ely from Portland, Oregon for a wedding, and booked this cabin to share with three families. The owners live near Minneapolis/St Paul, so it is managed through a little resort nearby. We arrived and fell in love with the cabin immediately. It has so much space, was tastefully and charmingly decorated, and the layout is perfect. We kept cozy with the fireplace in the main area, and the boys watched football in the four season porch (there's a little fireplace in there too.) It rained for our entire stay, and our girls (1.5 and 3.5) had lots of space to play and stretch out. The kitchen is well stocked, and my mother even baked all of the pies for the wedding in the oven. We loved everything about this place and are looking for an excuse to come back. Thanks for the great hospitality, Jim and Anne! We love Brother Bear Lodge!"

  • Beautiful and relaxing!

"The cabin description is very accurate. It is practically new, well maintained and very clean. The location was a little more remote than we expected, which was fine by us. We were thankful to arrive in daylight, it would have been difficult to find in the dark! Our GPS didn't recognize the trails after turning off the main drag and the road sign for the trail isn't visibly until you've been on it for a short distance. All basic supplies included (bed/bath/kitchen linens). Appliances pretty much new. There are a few games/DVDs/books but you probably want to bring some as well for rainy days. We bought groceries in Virginia on the way but Orr has all the basics, too. We had lake Winchester nearly to ourselves nearly the entire week! Fishing was great (we catch and release), we could hardly get our poles in the water before getting a bite. We had lots of bonfires and there was more than enough wood prepared and stacked nearby. The stars are phenomenal! We enjoyed the Vermillion Gorge hike and waterfalls and the Vince Shute Bear sanctuary. The Dam cafe in Orr wasn't bad. The Landing restaurant in Cook was quite yummy! The generator needed to be reset a few times but there were directions to follow. The owner Dave was very kind and helpful. He gave us directions and other information ahead of time and was available when we called with a generator question. There is some cell reception on the dock and in town but otherwise we were pretty well unplugged. I would recommend this property to family and friends."

  • Beautiful location with cozy cabin

"My husband and I spent a relaxing 3 nights in this cozy, comfortable cabin. We enjoyed taking our morning coffee just steps to Lake Superior and watching the sun rise over the lake. The weather was beautiful and we hiked a few trails, ate dinner at nearby restaurants and read on the porch. We were almost disappointed it didn't rain so we could hunker down in the cabin and spend a day reading and napping! The only negative was I would have liked to sleep in the loft bedroom but the stairs are steep and we worried about having to climb down during the night! Excellent cabin in every other way."
