Overview of Lake Vermilion Vacation Rentals
Lake Vermillion Vacation Rentals of Northern Minnesota
The “land of 10,000 lakes,” as Minnesota is known, is home to Lake Vermillion vacation rentals, one of those numerous lakes. Often we do not consider the northern states for holidays, figuring they will be too cold and offer mostly indoor activities. Lake Vermillion, however, has plenty to offer in the summer season for outdoor enthusiasts. Lake Vermillion is located in northern Minnesota about 100 miles from Canada’s Ontario border. In this area, you are more likely to see national forests and Indian reservations than you are to see populated cities.
Pinpointing Lake Vermillion Lake Houses for Family Gatherings
If you have a family reunion or just need a vacation with your family, Vermillion Lake houses will be your best choice. Children will have to give up their iPods, mobile phones, video games, and computers for a truly natural experience. Arriving in Lake Vermillion will take a bit of navigation though. For those traveling north or from Wisconsin, your best road is Highway 53 and from the west going east, you will need Highway 2. These highways will only take you so far into the northeast quadrant of Minnesota before they become two-lane roads, like the one Highway 53 turns into. This highway will bring you right into Cook which is one of the towns near Lake Vermillion. The Lake Vermillion cottages will be a little farther outside of Cook along the beaches.
Nature Surrounding Lake Vermillion Cottages
Since Minnesota is more about nature, especially in the northern sections, you can bet you have numerous wilderness areas to explore. You might begin your day with Bois Forte Heritage Center which was dedicated to the telling of the Bois Forte Ojibwe story. Here, you will discover a birch bark dwelling, tipi, and paths which take you to the 1866 gold mine. The center takes an hour of your time; if you examine the history of the sites and the outdoor exhibits, it can take you half a day. After you are done at the heritage center, it might be time to return to your Lake Vermillion vacation rentals for a meal. You could also enjoy another popular attraction such as the Mailboat Excursions. You will be able to take in 80 miles of the scenic lake on this tour in a uniquely styled boat.
Fortune Bay Casino offers two floors of entertainment for adults. It might be a night out for Mom and Dad, while the kids sleep. For another day trip, consider the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The tour will bring you along 1,200 miles of trails where you can snap photos of the entire family or just get a little peace on your mountain vacation.
Superior National Forest Near Lake Vermillion
Superior National Forest is so large it earns a section of its own to discuss the wonders it can bring to your vacation. The forest is located in the Arrowhead Region of Minnesota and borders the north shore of Lake Superior, hence its name. During its early history, the land surrounding the lake was used by fur traders and Native Americans as a resource. In 1909, the U.S. decided to create a border around 3,900,000 acres of forested land to protect it for future generations. The forest until that time was used both for logging and recreation. Now, it is an important site for camping, boating, and fishing.
Many landforms have been created over time, such as Lake Vermillion, from a variety of geological changes. Some of the most important features of Minnesota’s northern region are the glaciers and glacial scouring. Rising above you at Lake Vermillion cottages will be the Sawtooth Mountains and Eagle Mountain. The glaciers have started to melt even more in recent years, so you may want to take an aerial tour of those that still remain in Minnesota. On your holiday, you should also spend some time looking for wildlife. Moose, birds, and numerous fish are plentiful. Most particular to the region are the American Black Bear, Timber Wolf, and Canadian Lynx.
