  • Great location, great cabin, great time!

"Had a wonderful week here. The property was very clean and much larger than expected. The owner and his staff were very helpful and always available to us. The lake is huge and the kids had a great time fishing, wakeboarding and tubing. We also had a good time just cruising the lake. The yard is large and we played several yard games. The nice sandy beach was a perfect place to play and sit around the fire. The cabin is about 2 miles from the Mesabi bike trail and the kids spent a lot of time biking and exploring. Four wheeling trails are also nearby. We saw the open pit mine in nearby Hibbing and explored the area mines and nature. Last but not least, the hot tub on the screened in porch was an amazing way to end each day. This is a little piece of heaven tucked in between 2 decent sized cities, Grand Rapids and Hibbing, which gives you great access to several amenities such as museums, shopping, restaurants and groceries."

  • Beautiful and relaxing!

"The cabin description is very accurate. It is practically new, well maintained and very clean. The location was a little more remote than we expected, which was fine by us. We were thankful to arrive in daylight, it would have been difficult to find in the dark! Our GPS didn't recognize the trails after turning off the main drag and the road sign for the trail isn't visibly until you've been on it for a short distance. All basic supplies included (bed/bath/kitchen linens). Appliances pretty much new. There are a few games/DVDs/books but you probably want to bring some as well for rainy days. We bought groceries in Virginia on the way but Orr has all the basics, too. We had lake Winchester nearly to ourselves nearly the entire week! Fishing was great (we catch and release), we could hardly get our poles in the water before getting a bite. We had lots of bonfires and there was more than enough wood prepared and stacked nearby. The stars are phenomenal! We enjoyed the Vermillion Gorge hike and waterfalls and the Vince Shute Bear sanctuary. The Dam cafe in Orr wasn't bad. The Landing restaurant in Cook was quite yummy! The generator needed to be reset a few times but there were directions to follow. The owner Dave was very kind and helpful. He gave us directions and other information ahead of time and was available when we called with a generator question. There is some cell reception on the dock and in town but otherwise we were pretty well unplugged. I would recommend this property to family and friends."

  • Remote retreat

"Husband, wife and dog made this remote retreat their headquarters for a two week stay mid-way between Duluth and Two Harbors. It is about 20 minutes to both downtowns from the house. It is remote being several miles off the main highway and then 1 1/2 miles back in the woods. It is very peaceful -- even the river runs quietly at this time of year. The description and photos are accurate and fairly list the amenities. There is lots of room and natural light in the house and we enjoyed sitting on the deck and occassionaly have a meal out there. The configuartion of the bedrooms and bathrooms is a little unusual in that two of the bedrooms (one upstairs and one on lower level) either have to share a bathroom located in another bedroom or share the very nice bathroom on the main floor. However two families with children might not find this cumbersome. Owner Lisa was very responsive to our requests being reachable by cell phone every day of the week. Almost everyday we either drove into Two Harbors at Burlington Bay or the Lighthouse for a swim (the dog) and a walk along the lake shore -- all three of us, or we drove to Brighton Beach just north of Duluth for the same activity. Betty's Pies is just north of TH, the New Scenic Cafe is just down the hill from the house and the tourist activities of Duluth and Canal Park are just a short drive. And if you like old fashioned hardware stores, the True Value in TH is not to be missed -- we bought things from pickled beets and jams to hardware items from the very knowledgeable staff."

  • Great winter solitude!

"The property is beautifully furnished with a very distinctive design. It was the perfect space for our family of 4. The location provides solitude while being close to Lutsen. The owner was very helpful regarding mechanical concerns that were remedied in a timely fashion. It was great place for a "spring break" vacation."
