  • Beautiful place for a family reunion

"We were looking for a quiet, out of the way place for seven adults and three children (ages 2-½, 5 and 10) from Big Cities (Washington DC, Oakland CA, Hong Kong and Des Moines, IA), and we were delighted with what we found. The lake and surrounding rolling country-side were spectacular and serene, and the weather was pleasant. We were fearing that there would be mosquitos, but the breeze probably swept them away; no one had a single bite the whole week. The dog, Rudy, was gentle and affectionate with our little one, and we appreciated the manager bringing a child's "jeep" for the kids to "drive" around the yard. The adults and kids enjoyed many canoe trips out on the lake. We enjoyed touring the 19th-century historic town of Curie with the end-of-the-line railroad buildings and the the Pipestone National Monument where American Indians used to quarry the soft red stone for for carving peace pipes and other decorative items. We even spent a day at the county fair in nearby Slayton. I would suggest that brochures of local points of interest be placed in the home to help people plan their activities. Our one disappointment was that the sandy "swimming beach" was rather small and concealed in the tall grass near the water, and too far away for the little kids to walk conveniently. Nevertheless, we all had a wonderful, memorable time together."

  • Sister/Mom Getaway!

"We had an excellent time at the Windbeam House!!! Trudi was very welcoming and we had good communication before our arrival. The house was just what we needed. plenty of room for 7 sisters and our Mom. We enjoyed the beautiful view and were able to watch eagle's soaring and other birds. Wish we could have spent more days there!!!"

  • Highly Recommend!

"Wish we could have stayed longer! We were in town for a wedding and enjoyed our stay. The town home was beautifully decorated and very CLEAN!!!!! If my future travels bring me back to Lake City I will definitely stay here again (hopefully longer). Thank you, Sharon, for stopping by to make sure we had everything we needed - we did!!"

  • Lovely, with just two side notes for guests with babies.

"We were a group of three moms and three babies (under 1). We had a great time in this lovely home. The location is perfect. It is one house down from the street, directly across from the water. The park is just two blocks away. Amazing sunrises! Loved: The kitchen, location, and upstairs bedrooms. The kitchen was fully stocked with all necessary equipment. There were even napkins on the table. Plenty of room for all of us, meal prep, and space to eat. The only thing missing for us was dish soap, which someone had brought anyway. Upstairs bedrooms are huge. Due to the third bedroom situation (see below), we had two adults and two pack-n-plays set up in one bedroom and there was still room to move. Minor downfalls: The third bedroom and the noise. The third bedroom, as noted, is in the basement. It seems comfortable enough, but packed into a small space. The exercise equipment is at the foot of the bed. Please note parents of young babies- there is no door for this "bedroom" so the stairs are right next to the bed. It is also basement, the floor is cement. For these reasons (and a bit of the spooky factor) we did not use this "bedroom". I don't see any of this being a problem for a teenager or adult. The only other note also applies only to parents of babies. This is an old home and therefore has old home noises. With three babies sleeping upstairs it was a game to see which one would wake up when having to go up/down creaky steps to attend to another one. The home is adorable and very comfortable. There are books, magazines, internet, television, and plenty of space so even in poor weather you wouldn't be lacking in things to do. In good weather, the location is fantastic. Walk to anything in town, even with a stroller. The moral of the story is that we had a great time and would absolutely love to stay here again!"
