  • We didn't want to leave!

"They call it a "cottage", but it really is a charming home on a wooded lot close to all things Ole' Miss. The beds were all super comfortable and the bathrooms are arranged so that everyone feels like they have their own private bath. Which brings up the shower heads and water pressure...which was awesome. Seriously, we loved taking showers there and have asked the owners what type of shower head they used in the master bath. The kitchen is fully stocked and we prepared 3 dinners while there because when it's graduation weekend at Ole' Miss, the waits at restaurants are over 2 hours long. It's so much nicer to eat in at this "cottage". I think my husband lived on the screened-in back porch while we were there. You feel like you are in an aviary with all the different birds flying and singing around you. Like I said, we didn't want to leave, but the beach was calling."

The city of Oxford, in Lafayette County, Mississippi was founded in 1835 and is home to "Ole Miss," the University of Mississippi. Oxford Vacation Houses Are Ideal for Visiting Many Attractions

The affluent city of Oxford has an interesting history with many attractions commemorating its past. The town square itself dates from 1837 and remains the hub of this small city. Here, visitors to Oxford vacation rentals will enjoy exploring the unique boutiques, stores and even the oldest department store in the South. There are also art galleries, book stores and restaurants.

The LQC Lamar House is a restored three-acre site commemorating the life of this former Supreme Court Judge, who lived here from 1869 to 1888. Visitors can also tour Rowan Oak, the home of the Nobel Prize winning author William Faulkner. Nearby, Faulkner fans will find his final resting place at St. Peter’s Cemetery, along with many other of the city’s notable residents. While here, also visit the University Museum with its fascinating permanent exhibitions of Greek and Roman artifacts, 19th-century scientific equipment and local folk artist Theora Hamblett. Music lovers may also want to investigate the Blues Archive at the university, with an impressive collection of records, movies, photographs and more. Much of the exhibitions are influenced by African American musicians. The Center for the Study of Southern Culture has an excellent display of photography from across the south. The Confederate Cemetery is a small walled garden housing a single monument at its center. This marks the 1862 graves of over 700 Confederate and Union soldiers at the battle of Shiloh. An evening out in the city may include a visit to the Powerhouse Community Arts and Cultural Center where there are a variety of events such as open mic nights, movies, live performances, and more. Dating from 1880, the Walton-Young Historic House is a registered State Landmark and the Historic Burns Church commemorates the original "freedmen’s town" and the role of African Americans in the city’s development.
