  • This is Island Life

"My family (2 adults/3kids/dog) had a great time on Daufuskie Island at this house. We travel 2-3x a year and I rely on the reviews a lot to make our decision, so hopefully this info helps you! House: I would call the rental a combination of house/cottage. Everything was up to date and in working condition. It has a very comfortable design with hardwood floors, nice furniture, comfortable beds, washer/dryer, flat screen TV's, screened porch and great views every morning at sunrise. Beach: The beach and waterfront is unique and like a combination of the ocean and a large lake. You get to see all of the wildlife with plenty of birds and dolphins, but the wave are not big. We found this perfect for our youngest (6) and dog to play in the water without worry of rough conditions. You still get to hear the waves rolling all night. The beach is clean and quiet, and about 50 yards from your porch. Daufuskie Island: Very unique place! If you deal with people daily and want a quiet, peaceful get-away with your family, this is the right place. If you want to be catered to or find entertainment, wrong place. The golf cart is essential and we used it to explore everywhere on the island. Beaches, communities, golf courses, wildlife, alligators, lunch/dinners - Everywhere you go is by the electric cart and it is an awesome way to travel. Melrose on the Beach Golf course: I cannot say enough how nice this course is. Up to date Callaway club rentals, golf carts with GPS, and very friendly staff. The first 15 holes are inland and beautiful. The last three holes play on the ocean and the views are perfect. Places to visit: We went all over the island, but the "main attractions" are very basic. Freeport Marina has a general store that has some very basic necessities and the Daufuskie Crab Company for lunch/dinner. Bloody Point has some high end houses, a golf course and decent restaurant. Marshside Momma's lived up to the reputation - a real "hole in the wall" with great food. What to bring: EVERYTHING. There is no exaggeration. All food, drink, condiments and spices - no real stores here. Make a list and pack. We used and recommend the private water taxi. They will take everything you bring. In closing, the place was perfect to get away from our busy life. The owner was very quick to reply to any questions we had. My only recommendations for this property would be WIFI and some beach chairs. Great vacation - will be back!"

Mississippi Travel Tips

Best Time of Year to Visit Mississippi

Mississippi enjoys a long summer and relatively short winter. This makes it a popular summer vacation destination. While most people still tend to travel during the peak holiday season of July and August, the longer summer season means that you can still enjoy good weather outside of peak season. In the summer months, the temperatures average around 85 degrees Fahrenheit. The warmest month is traditionally July. During the winter months, the temperatures average 48 degrees Fahrenheit, with the coldest month being January. The northern interior is generally more temperate that the coastal areas. Occasional snowfalls are not uncommon in the central and northern parts; however, it is seldom significant amounts and it usually quickly melts away. Most of the rainfall occurs during the summer months in the form of short-lived but dramatic thunderstorms. The Gulf Coast is particularly prone to hurricanes that blow across the Gulf of Mexico in the late summer and early fall months. The interior of the state usually gets the dregs of the tropical storms which results in heavy rainfall.

Music Legends at Mississippi Condos

Mississippi has a rich cultural heritage. Like its neighboring states, it has a strong music tradition with the signature music style being the Blues. In Clarksdale, you will find the Delta Blues Museum where you can see memorabilia and photographs of some of the great Blues legends. There are also numerous Blues Bars across the state where you can hear your favorite tune. Tupelo, which is in northeast Mississippi, is the birthplace of Elvis Presley. Here, you can tour his childhood home which is a humble two-room house. Next door is a museum which contains many different memorabilia items that detail his life. You can also take a stroll through town and see the fairgrounds where he performed early in his career or the hardware store where he bought his first guitar. For country music fans, you can visit Meridian which is the hometown of Jimmy Rogers. The Jimmy Rogers Museum in town pays tribute to this country music legend.

Visitors to Mississippi

Mississippi is a state that attracts a diverse range of visitors. Many come to visit the museums attributed to music legends but the state has much more to offer. It has a rich historical heritage with many museums. There are also many excellent golf courses where golfing enthusiasts can enjoy a round. The natural attractions are ideal for outdoor enthusiasts that enjoy hiking, mountain biking or RV-ing.
