  • Charming cabin in the woods

"My husband and I spent 2 glorious nights in this little cabin in the woods. Mark and Samantha, the owners, were so very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The cabin is so cozy and has just the right amount of space needed for 2 people who just want to get away from it all. It is only about 10 minutes from downtown Bigfork and about that far from Swan Lake and Flathead Lake. Mark has kayaks and mountain bikes for rent and also runs a dogsledding/carting business with Inuit sled dogs. It was a blast getting a tour of the kennels where the dogs are kept. We even got to hold the newest pups which were adorable. We took a 3 hour kayak trip down the Swan River which was like floating on glass. Mark went out of his way to make sure we had a great time and even gave us free put-in and pick-up service. Mark also told us where we could find huckelberries so we spent about an hour in the woods picking the sweet berries (of course we brought our bear spray!!) You should definitely stay here if you enjoy a cozy retreat at a great price!"

  • Smith/Cornyn/Jordan/Zeitlin Family

"I think the best comment about our week (We had both houses) is summed up this way. My 4.5 year old grandson had only one meltdown the entire time we were there. It was the morning we were leaving and he started crying "Mommy, I don't want to go home". He met new cousins, tubed, swam, went boating, hiked in short, he had a blast. Then today my 40 year old niece called and wanted to thank me, along with her Mom, for putting together such a great family vacation. We grew up on Flathead and it was a first family reunion there in many years. It was fun showing the kids and grand kids where we grew up. We selected this listing because one family member is paralyzed from the waist down and this was billed as accessible. Accessible can be all over the map in definition but both of these houses were truly accessible. We did have to drive her into Bigfork and put her in the boat to bring her back to the dock because of the incline but that was the only challenge we faced the entire week. GREAT location....we would go back for sure!"

  • Enchanting Achewa!

"We (two families, 4 adults, 6 kids aged 7 mos - 9yrs) stayed at Achewa for the last week of July 2014. The first thing anyone must talk about with respect to this property is the view - absolutely phenomenal. It felt like we were living in a postcard for a week! Lots of wildlife around - although we only saw whitetail deer. We found the home to be very well-maintained in general - everything functioned perfectly. The kitchen was extremly well-equipped -probably the best equipped property we have rented (we rent approximately 2 homes a year off VRBO). Chocolate birthday cake, banana bread for breakfast - no problem, the kitchen had everything we needed. My husband and I were lucky enough to have the master bedroom as our sleeping quarters - it was a small oasis for us, remote from the rest of the house and, for some reason, cooler too. And waking up to that the view every day...just gorgeous. The weather was hot (33-35C) for our entire stay and we did find the house heated up quite a bit by late afternoon, but opening up the loft windows in the morning helped with tremendously. Plus late afternoon / evening was prime deck time! Did I mention the view? One last note: the home owner was a bit concerned by the ages of our children when we initially contacted her about renting this property. Having seen the place now, I understand her reservations. The home is located on a heavily wooded hillside (hence the amazing view) and there isn't really a flat, grassy area or a family / games room where the kids can run and wear off steam. We tired the kids out by spending our days at the lake / doing all kinds of other activities and had a lovely time at Achewa overall, but I do think the property is probably better suited to families with teenagers or adult groups."
