  • Helena, Professors Elkhorn Mountain Cabin Retreat

"As we settled into the cabin for a week's stay, we realized the beauty and serenity of the location. Just a mile from our family in Montana City, we have found our home away from home. Visiting family can be such a difficult chore because of the want to find a home which satisfies the needs of proximity to our kids' home, a place to provide a meal with the whole family and a comforting place to sleep and read. This was our first stay but surely won't be the last."

  • On the water

"This is a wonderful house with a great view and a trout stream close by the house. The stream, Jerry Creek runs down to the Big Hole, one of the best trout rivers in the U.S. The view from the house is terrific with a long look down the valley and across the Big Hole. Just up the road, following Jerry Creek upstream, is the start of a national forest with various facilities. The attractions in this area are endless. If you fish, rockhound, hike, or enjoy settlements from the late nineteenth century, you would be hard pressed to do better than this property. Our nights were cool and the days were warm. The fishing on the Beaverhead and Big Hole were okay for a slower time of year. Taking a 14" Cutthroat thirty yards from the house on a dry fly an hour before dinner was a high point. It was delicious. If you have an off-road/rough road vehicle, there is just no end to what you can do in this country. The owner put me onto my first Arctic Grayling, a lunker for the species. I'm sworn to secrecy as to the exact location but it wasn't a real long drive or too hard a wade. The owner, a great fly fisherman and many of many experiences and interests, will give you all you need to know to enjoy the outdoors here. Personally, I hope he won't take you to the Grayling hole. The services in the immediate area are somewhat limited. The food in Jerry Creek is surprisingly good and there are modest groceries. The rides to Butte or Dillon for more extensive services are scenic and relatively easy. Dillon is worth a visit just for the wonderful sculpture scattered around town. This part of Montana is one of the last pieces of heaven left in the U.S. If you go, don't tell too many people about it."

  • Just felt like home!

"Three of my friends and I just wanted to get away from work, dishes, laundry, and our 'stuff'; so we rented this little cottage for a couple nights. We felt at home the moment we walked in. It was clean, comfortable, and practically furnished and supplied. The view was great, and the air fresh and inviting. We looked the town over, drove around to see all the old houses, and let our imaginations run. We laughed because some of the things in the antique stores were still in use in our own homes. When the air got cool at night, we turned on the stove and ate our candy from the Sweet Palace. We wrapped up in blankets, sat on the porch, watched the moon come up and listened to the dog barking in the distance. The only problem we had was...... we didn't want to go home. So, we called Bob and Nancy and asked if we could stay another night. They laughed and said 'Yes.' (We had to bribe our husbands by promising them fudge from the candy store) I've been doing rentals for almost 15 years, and I've met a lot of owners. These people were the easiest to work with that I've met. We will be going back when we can get away again. Thanks Bob and Nancy."
