Overview of Yellowstone Country Vacation Rentals
Find Beautiful Yellowstone Vacation Rentals
Yellowstone National Park covers an area of 3,468 square miles and extends through Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. It was the first national park in the world and has a wonderful array of geothermal features, lakes, canyons and mountain ranges which attract many visitors. Yellowstone County in Montana is a great base from which to explore this magnificent area. It was named after the Yellowstone River which runs through the county, providing the opportunity for fishing, kayaking and other watersports.
The Benefits of Yellowstone Vacation Rentals
Choose a custom-built log cabin or more traditional vacation home in Yellowstone as your vacation base. With plenty of space, these homes often have wood-burning stoves, country-style kitchens and plenty of beds to accommodate extended families and larger parties. A vacation home offers plenty of space for everyone to do their own thing in a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Prepare picnic lunches and dinner in the evening in the well-equipped kitchens. A washer and dryer unit may be invaluable after a day out fishing, ATV riding, skiing or hiking. You can even enjoy sitting out late on the porch, enjoying the view from your Yellowstone vacation home as it stays light until 10:30 p.m. during the summer months.
Things to do From Your Yellowstone Lodging
Yellowstone is a great place for a winter snow vacation. From here, visitors can go skiing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing in the winter. During the summer, Yellowstone is the start of miles of mountain biking trails. Visitors can enjoy horseback riding in the Gallatine National Forest, whitewater rafting, hiking, golf and world-class fly fishing. There are several small towns in the area for shopping, dining out and exploring. For a virtual tour of the area, head for the Yellowstone IMAX Theater in the town of West Yellowstone.
Getting to Yellowstone, Montana
Access to Yellowstone Montana is easy during the summer when the West Yellowstone Airport is open. It offers car rentals and a number of West Yellowstone tours can be booked here. The closest major airport to Yellowstone is Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah. Local connections to Billings, 120 miles northeast of Yellowstone, and Bozeman, 90 miles north of the park, may be more convenient. Rental cars must then be hired to complete the journey to your Yellowstone lodging.
Areas to Visit Around Yellowstone Cabins
Along with the western entrance to Yellowstone National Park, the area includes the nearby communities of Island Park, Ashton and Ennis. The Harriman State Park, Quake Lake, the Targhee National Forest, Red Rock Lakes and Henry’s Lake State Park are all wonderful places to explore. The Island Park Reservoir is just across the border in Idaho and has miles of forests trails and water activities. Big Sky is a well-known center for both winter skiing and summer activities.
The Lamar Valley near Cooke City has been nicknamed “the Serengeti of North America” for the huge herds of elk, bison and pronghorn antelope which roam the area along with big horn sheep, wolves, coyotes, mountain goats, grizzlies, black bears and countless birds. The Chico Hot Spring is thought to be part of the underground outflow of Mammoth Hot Springs in Wyoming and a favorite haunt of Hollywood stars.
Paradise Valley lodging is just 30 miles from the entrance to Yellowstone National Park in Montana. It is a beautiful area for hiking or driving in the spectacular scenery. Historic Livingston has many small shops, art galleries and restaurants in its own center.
