  • Fall Foliage on Flathead

"Due to the unusually cool summer, our trip happened to coincide with the peak of fall foliage in Glacier this year. It was spectacular. The Flathead and Swan Valleys have been one of our favorite (and most frequent) vacation destinations these last 14 years, but we had never seen it in September until now. It was just beautiful. The house was great, it was well appointed, the kitchen had all the necessities, (including cooking spices, etc), and the sunsets were amazing. My three year old daughter had to "take care of the trees" by hugging every one of them each time she climbed the stairs. It's a memory we will all enjoy for years to come. It is easily one of the nicest vacation rentals around "greater Bigfork", but what truly sets this one apart is its owner. She went out of her way to keep our vacation relaxed and worry free. She was so easy to deal with and kept the "rules" simple. Just treat the house like you would your own. That seems obvious to most people who would pay $5,000 a week for lodging but you might be surprised by the unreasonable rules at other area homes. We actually chose a home on neighboring Swan Lake initially, (despite the higher price tag), but the contract was so unreasonable, it was hard to imagine having any fun at all. Who wants to spend their vacation worried about getting fined for leaving the TV remote on the wrong table? That's when we found Bert's beautiful home, but what sold us on this rental was her easy going nature. This was a beautiful property with a very helpful and pleasant owner, and it made for a perfect vacation. We would encourage anyone considering a stay in Bigfork to call Bert and decide for yourself. We will definitely rent from her again when we return. (Although we might try out the Swan River property next time just for fun.) EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE! ABSOLUTELY CHOOSE THIS RENTAL! (Oh, and the deposit was returned in full the day after we checked out.) - Thanks again for a great time!"

  • Loved Mountain View Lodge in Red Lodge

"We stayed at the Mountain View Lodge on the golf course when we came to Red Lodge to ski. This was our first time renting through VRBO and I was a little nervous. I am happy to say this beautiful house is definitely legitimate. It is large, homey and relaxing. I would highly recommend it to anyone staying in the area. We would love to stay there again on our next trip to Red Lodge, if the house is available."

  • BEST Location!

"We were a group of nine in Black Eagle. We couldn't have been more comfortable and happy with our house. The house was beautiful and a 1/3 of the price that Big Sky Reservations was charging. We cooked dinner every night and made breakfast every morning. It had 2 coffee pots, full size washer & dryer, boot dryers, clean hot tub, gas grill on the deck, 3.5+ bathrooms, 4 tv's. It snowed everyday we were there and someone came by everyday to shovel our balcony. If there were any questions or issues Big Sky Vacation Rentals came by & helped us right away. We will not stay anywhere else when we return. I wished we booked for two weeks instead."

  • Great place to stay!

"The property was as described, but there is now a bunk bed in lieu of the single bed, and it was very comfortable. The kitchen was well-equipped and we had most of our meals in the cabin which saved us a lot of dining-out expense. The cabins are set back from the main road so it was quiet inside. The only drawback was the lack of WiFi in the cabin, but Ernie's restaurant two doors away has free public WiFi so we could get a high-speed connection if needed; otherwise we got our email on our smartphones. Our Montana friends joined us and used the cowboy cabin which they found to be comfortable although heated by a portable electric heater that was a bit noisy. The owner was a pleasure to deal with. Overall, it was a great place to stay and infinitely superior to staying in a hotel. I'd definitely use this property again!"

Montana Travel Tips

Things to See and Do at Montana Vacation Rentals

Montana cabin rentals and homes offer up wide open spaces, tall mountain ranges and abundant wildlife. It is often referred to as the Big Sky State because of its wilderness appeal. Perhaps Montana's most famous natural attraction is Yellowstone National Park and the tall geyser named "Old Faithful" that erupts on a regular basis. Yellowstone vacation rentals are close to great wildlife viewing. It is home to grizzlies, wolves, and various species of deer, elk and other antelope. There are several hiking trails in the park and one of the highlights is the hike up the Iceberg Trail. The route visits the Ptarmigan Falls and then traverses the southern shore of the glacial lake known as Iceberg Lake.

For those that enjoy water sports, Montana cabin rentals along the river offer many adventure opportunities. There is whitewater rafting, paddling and fishing to be enjoyed. Another favorite way to explore the landscapes is on horseback. There are numerous road and mountain bike trails available for cyclists. For technical riders, there are miles of forest and mountain single-track sections. When the season turns, it isn't the end of the adventures. Instead, when the snows blanket the mountains, it attracts even more visitors. Montana cabins are also close to some of the best ski resorts in North America and they are also some of the more affordable to visit. There are miles of downhill ski runs catering to beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. There are also Nordic and cross country skiing trails and various snowboarding terrain parks. Snowshoeing is a popular pastime and many of the parks offer winter snowshoe hikes. There are also snow coach tours that take you sightseeing and wildlife viewing in the cozy comfort of a heated all-terrain vehicle.
