  • A Great Place to "Launch" From by Yellowstone Park

"My wife and I, as well another couple, spent a glorious 4 days exploring Yellowstone National Park. We stayed at the Grizzly Den and were delighted with the accommodations and proximity to the park. The cabin was very roomy, well appointed, and impeccably clean. It was very nice to have a bathroom in each of the two bedrooms and it was a great place to unwind (need I say with a sip of wine and a fabulous view of the mountains) at the end of a long day viewing all that Yellowstone has to offer. It is a short ride to town for groceries, gas, etc. and to get to the park entrance. Being on the river is a nice bonus. The owner, Tammy, was a pleasure to work with in setting up the rental. On any return visits, there will be no need to look into other housing options. Thanks for making it special."

  • Family vacation!

"We arrived Jan 11, 2014 to a little slice of heaven! The house and its amenities is one of the most beautiful and functional properties we have stayed at. Big Sky itself is a wonderful ski resort with NO LIFT LINES! Shhhhhhhhhhh! Incredibly convenient location in one of the most wildly scenic places on earth Yellowstone! We spent a day snowmobiling and had a total blast. We enjoy a family ski vacation each year and have traveled all over the US, this property is our new fav! The most luxurious authentic property we have ever stayed at. The "hot tub time machine" is miraculous after a day on the slopes. The owners were fabulous to work with, were responsive and super friendly. Can not recommend a place any higher. Mema says it was the best!"

  • Camping Cabins at their finest!

"My boys LOVED this place!!! Authentic log cabins, lots of space and the Big Hole river to fly fish on! My boys (21, 22 & 55) were able to walk into the river and go upstream into a huge section that is not easily accessible to the public. If there had not been huge rains the day before we arrived, fishing would have been outstanding. Be sure to have good river boots the rocks are a bit slippery here. Each log cabin has been incredibly restored, three are on new foundations and are all sealed pretty tight. Chris, the owner, has put a lot of love into this place. I am a home remodeler and appreciated all of the detail and lots of thought has gone into the restoration of these great buildings. The beds were comfortable and well appointed. Each cabin is a bit of a distance from each other, which we liked, and were glad to have brought flashlights. Great for adults or older kids who are comfortable sleeping in their own cabin. The kitchen has an amazing commercial stove/oven and huge refrigerator. We were able to grilled outside every night. It is rustic but very comfortable. My boys are planning their next getaway and would love to make this their landing place again. Be sure to come with your groceries or drive to Butte or Dillon for supplies. Melrose has two fly fishing shops and both were very helpful. We also drove over to the Wise river and Twin Bridges to fish, all within 45 minutes or so. We booked this rental at the last minute…like one day in advance and arrived late at night. The cabins were opened (window shutters open and fans on) and music greeted us in the cooking cabin. It was a bit of an adventure learning the lay of the land late at night. About my rating. I would have given it a 4 star rating since I, the only gal, had to sweep out each cabin the first day, behind the bathroom doors had not been swept for a while, and wipe down the kitchen for my liking (I would have liked to have had a vacuum with an edger). My boys roll their eyes and give this vacation spot 6 stars out of 5 so I had to use the average and rated it a 5 :-) Thank you Chris for sharing this great place it has given us wonderful family vacation memories."

Montana Travel Tips

Things to See and Do at Montana Vacation Rentals

Montana cabin rentals and homes offer up wide open spaces, tall mountain ranges and abundant wildlife. It is often referred to as the Big Sky State because of its wilderness appeal. Perhaps Montana's most famous natural attraction is Yellowstone National Park and the tall geyser named "Old Faithful" that erupts on a regular basis. Yellowstone vacation rentals are close to great wildlife viewing. It is home to grizzlies, wolves, and various species of deer, elk and other antelope. There are several hiking trails in the park and one of the highlights is the hike up the Iceberg Trail. The route visits the Ptarmigan Falls and then traverses the southern shore of the glacial lake known as Iceberg Lake.

For those that enjoy water sports, Montana cabin rentals along the river offer many adventure opportunities. There is whitewater rafting, paddling and fishing to be enjoyed. Another favorite way to explore the landscapes is on horseback. There are numerous road and mountain bike trails available for cyclists. For technical riders, there are miles of forest and mountain single-track sections. When the season turns, it isn't the end of the adventures. Instead, when the snows blanket the mountains, it attracts even more visitors. Montana cabins are also close to some of the best ski resorts in North America and they are also some of the more affordable to visit. There are miles of downhill ski runs catering to beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. There are also Nordic and cross country skiing trails and various snowboarding terrain parks. Snowshoeing is a popular pastime and many of the parks offer winter snowshoe hikes. There are also snow coach tours that take you sightseeing and wildlife viewing in the cozy comfort of a heated all-terrain vehicle.

Visitors to Montana Cabins

If you love getting away to cabin rentals, Montana has your number: the state attracts those who like wide open spaces, nature and the outdoors. It is the ideal adventure playground in all seasons for those that enjoy an active vacation. In the winter months, many people are attracted to the many excellent ski resorts. It is also a great family vacation destination, especially if you want to instill in your children an appreciation for nature and the outdoors. You can choose your summertime adventure depending on your interests. Most people like to head out on the various hiking trails. Others like to explore on horseback or mountain bikes. There are also strong western traditions with rodeos and shows taking place throughout the season.

Seasons to Visit Montana

There are two favorite seasons for booking Montana vacation homes, depending on your interests. The summer months are generally the most popular for those who want to participate in outdoor activities and wildlife viewing. It is also the ideal time of year to explore some of the cultural and historic attractions. The peak season in summertime is during July. The second most popular travel season coincides with the annual snowfalls. The ski season starts in December and, if the weather conditions are good, can last until April.
