"Riverbend Retreat was the perfect home base for all our adventures! The cabin was lovely, with beautiful views of the mountains and pond. We could hear the Swan River as well, and it was the perfect soundtrack for evenings watching the sunset light show on the the Swan Range. Everything about the cabin was great, from the living area to the kitchen to the bedrooms, and it was a wonderful place to return to after a hard day of playing. The wildlife viewing was great, with deer, beaver, ducks, and birds on the pond at the house. Other places, we saw mountain goats, a variety of owls, grouse, pika, ground squirrels, a bald eagle, etc. We also saw a Northern Rubber Boa on a hike, which was a real treat for us Easterners!
The outdoor activities were abundant. We covered a lot of ground and burned a lot of calories, but here are some of our favorites, for adventurous and active sorts:
-Smith Creek Pass Trail, 10.6 miles
-Clearwater Lake Trail (2.4 miles) and Morrell Falls (5.4 miles)... close to one another, can be done in the same day
-Upper Holland Lake Trail (13.3 miles)...incredible views at the top of a very big climb!
-Highline Trail, Glacier National Park (11 miles)
-Super friendly bike store/rentals in Seeley Lake! Rocky Mountain Adventure Gear
-Morrell/Rice Ridge Loop (25 miles). Big climb and great views. Be sure to refuel with a burger and fries from the stand next door.
-Holland Lake Lodge. Reasonable prices, beautiful water, mountains, and waterfall.
-Swan River (right behind the house!!)
This was an amazing vacation, and we didn't want to leave. We will be back as soon as our schedules allow!"
