Weirs beach vacation with 5 friends
"I stayed at this cottage with 4 friends over 4th of July weekend and it was exactly what I thought it would be: charming, rustic, with beach access and in a great location right in the heart of Weirs by the boardwalk. The owner was responsive and great to work with. We knew exactly what to expect and even got a positive surprise with more bedding/towels/beach toys available for use than we thought. The experience was pretty perfect. The only criticism would be that the private beach area isn't as large as I thought it would be, but still plenty of room to lay out and once you're in the water, the lake is huge and obviously all yours!!! Would definitely recommend this property for someone looking for a charming cottage for a weekend getaway!"

"This cottage is as described. It's frilly, comfortable and absolutely perfect for a small family (2 adults 2 kids). The layout has a decent-sized kitchen that has what you'd need for simple cooking: a skillet, a couple of pots along with a ton of utensils and a block of knives. There's a gas range and oven with a double sink. Coffee pot is programmable! No dishwasher, but a ton of dishware and various glassware/mugs. The living/dining area is tiled, all open and windows line the walls facing the water. The bedrooms are in the back and are small - bathroom is between the bedrooms and has a skylight for natural light.
The house is situated ON the water - as in - there's a boat "garage" under the house. On quiet nights you can hear the water lapping the foundation. There's a wide deck over the water and a dock for your boat. You can jump off it but shallow dives only and probably not advisable even those as the dock is pretty high off the water's surface. The bottom is sandy and our toddler could stand. The view is beautiful. The gas grill works like a charm.
A couple of warnings for those who've never rented lakefront cottages:
1. Space is at a premium, so your neighbors are very close. NH has few fireworks regulations so it's possible your neighbors are shooting them off. This particular cottage has its twin that shares the deck and yard, and a cottage behind these two that also shares the yard, deck and docks. We had no issues but it's not private (if that's what you're looking for) - actually, the guys in the twin cottage were great fun.
2. This is a lake cottage, and yes, there will be spiders as there are bugs. No matter how much cleaning you do there will likely be some multi-legged critters. This cottage probably has a couple of places that the cleaning rag has missed, but overall we found it VERY clean. If you're picky, though, about some overlooked places... well, good luck to you. We've rented some very expensive places with foot-long dustbunnies under the couches.
3. The beach described here is indeed .25 miles from the house - as another renter complained. That's a 5-minute walk for most people (!!) and you can park if you're so inclined to make the 15-second drive. The beach is sandy and the water is roped off with a great sandy bottom. There are a couple of picnic tables too.
Overall, Cathy (the owner) is a love to work with and extremely flexible. We would definitely return for a quick get-away!"

"Dottie and Dave were perfect hosts; the lake was beautiful and fascinating to watch to boats moored on the sandbar. The marina is close for those who want to rent kayaks or canoes. For us it was perfect just to relax and get-a-way. If you are a strong swimmer, the sandbar is about 150 yds off shore, but why would you want to as the little sandy beach is right there?
There is a little local lobster/clam "restaurant" very close, as is much of the retail that you might need.
The bed is comfortable, the kitchen well-appointed; after driving many, miles this place was perfect. (Dave's garden was impressive)
Note: there are a number of stairs to negotiate, and tall people probably would not be comfortable.
Dottie and Dave - thanks for being the perfect host and hostess!"
