  • Great Amenities

"Love the view and quick walk across the street to the beach. Plenty of lounge chairs, BBQs and a huge box of beach toys for the kids. The indoor pool / hot tub is in a beautifully-lit huge room with comfortable couches and tables. And the free wifi in the room works well. The big problem is the pull-out couch. I'll expand on a previous reviewer: the matress isn't just poor, the whole thing is plain broken. The fabric support is mostly ripped off the surrounding frame, so you end up slumped between the remaining springs that work, jammed with the bar in the middle. Even my 7 and 10-year olds felt terrible and slept on the floor. Bottom line: the place is excellent for two (sleeping on the main Murphy bed), and still great if your kids don't mind sleeping on the floor (mine are used to camping). The owner has been very accommodating and I hope will fix it for future guests, but meanwhile sleeping in beds is just for two."

  • Just perfect

"I cannot say enough good things about The Coop. I was totally worn out and needed a "reset" week in a bucolic setting. This place was just perfect. A lot of attention to detail was put into the design and building of this wonderfully intimate building, and it envelops you in a restful atmosphere immediately. There is a kitchen that has all the utensils and appliances one could want, plus many extras such as spices. The electric heater is available when needed; I stayed in mid-September and needed it a few times. Wireless connectivity is spotty, so I would not recommend this for anyone who will need to use the Internet a lot. This wasn't a problem for me, however, since the whole point of choosing this place was to get away from it all. I liked the excuse to not respond to work emails! There are games and books in a large cupboard, and Phyllis and Mitch have assembled a 3-ring binder with information about local places to eat, shop, hike, and visit. One of the tremendous assets of the location is that it is at the intersection of two dirt roads that offer excellent walking hikes (I've heard these referred to as "wikes"). It was great to roll out of bed and not have to drive to another place to get in a good bit of exercise. 100 feet away from The Coop you have the choice of which road to explore, and you are off. Both roads follow old stone walls and are through mature forests. I did 1.5 hour walks every day and seeing the sun dappling down through the canopy of trees was soothing to the soul. Phyllis and Mitch were available as resources yet also let me have complete privacy. They are definitely one (two) of the selling points for this property. I invited my wife up to join me at one point, and we decided that we will be coming back to The Coop at some point."

  • Beautiful house, stunning location, you will not find a better deal

"I am part of a group of runners that stayed in the River House for a week to get training in before our cross country season. We searched for houses in NH and on the Cape, and the River House stood out by far as having the most space, and being in a great training location, while also being a very reasonable deal. I cannot believe how incredible the house and location ended up being. The house is located right on a small babbling brook that is fun to explore. There is a yard in the back of the house, and a lake that is wonderful for swimming within a ten minute drive. There is also a pond nearby that we did not have time to visit. The house is simply incredible-- it has a classic architecture feel and a lot of personality, but is so clean and the amenities are very new. The beds are so comfortable, making the stay restful. If you are looking to stay in a beautiful, quiet, but safe (there are friendly neighbors next door, on a small farm) location, where you have access to great hiking, swimming, kayaking or training, there is no better place than the River House."

  • Fabulous place to relax

"We were on a touring holiday of New England and two nights stay at this lakeside cabin was our R and R before driving on again. It is a perfect place to relax, so quiet, yet with the lake view always something to watch. We were so lucky that we had crystal clear, sunny days, so the reflections of the fall foliage in the water were beautiful - spent much time trying to capture on camera! Besides the lovely walking trails there is so much to do, kayaks, table tennis, table football, board games. The cabin is so well equipped and the quick to light gas 'log burner' makes it so easy to be cosy in the cooler evenings. We left with our energy levels fully recharged."
