"Our family of 4 booked this beautiful home way back in the winter and we thought all spring and summer about our week at Alton Bay. When it finally arrived we had a great week of weather and the house was incredible. Very roomy and well equipped, the only thing we should have brought were our pillows as the down pillows seemed flat. The multiple decks, ah the decks-I can't say how many hours I sat out there, and 3 kayaks were used everyday even though we rented a 23' pontoon boat for the week, which fit nicely at the dock. We had company several days and the most in the house on one day was 11 and the house as large as it is still never felt cramped or congested. My husband fell in love with the wooden sculpture high up on the living room wall, he wants to know where you got it. We only turned the TV's on 2 nights (one night to watch the Patriots' play :)) and Tuesday the only day it rained a bit. We used the gas grill several evenings to cook and 1 night we even used the gas fire to ward off a chill in the evening air. We played games and 45's every night, we brought our own. All the games in the home seemed like they were missing a piece or a card- it would be nice if guests treated the game area with care.
Mount Major is just 1.5miles up the road and a great hike and incredible views from the top. We went to Shibley's for lunch and Pop's Clam Shell for dinner, both great spots to eat. This is a tremendous house in a tranquil cove. We truly enjoyed this very relaxing week and thank Brian and his family for opening up their doors to their well crafted home."

"I feel compelled to write a review because we had such a special week at this rental! The owner is just lovely to deal with. And she really takes great care to provide an AWESOME rental. No need to lug sheets and towels to this place - the beds are beautiful, comfortable, clean and already made! The cottage is a lake cottage but it's so CLEAN! The kitchen is well-stocked and CLEAN! Paper products are plentiful, which is also something that sometimes lacks at other rentals. Did I mention the place is ridiculously CLEAN? My only regret? I wish we had booked two weeks instead of just one. All rentals should be this perfect. Thanks to the owner for a truly great vacation at a great house."

"This cottage is as described. It's frilly, comfortable and absolutely perfect for a small family (2 adults 2 kids). The layout has a decent-sized kitchen that has what you'd need for simple cooking: a skillet, a couple of pots along with a ton of utensils and a block of knives. There's a gas range and oven with a double sink. Coffee pot is programmable! No dishwasher, but a ton of dishware and various glassware/mugs. The living/dining area is tiled, all open and windows line the walls facing the water. The bedrooms are in the back and are small - bathroom is between the bedrooms and has a skylight for natural light.
The house is situated ON the water - as in - there's a boat "garage" under the house. On quiet nights you can hear the water lapping the foundation. There's a wide deck over the water and a dock for your boat. You can jump off it but shallow dives only and probably not advisable even those as the dock is pretty high off the water's surface. The bottom is sandy and our toddler could stand. The view is beautiful. The gas grill works like a charm.
A couple of warnings for those who've never rented lakefront cottages:
1. Space is at a premium, so your neighbors are very close. NH has few fireworks regulations so it's possible your neighbors are shooting them off. This particular cottage has its twin that shares the deck and yard, and a cottage behind these two that also shares the yard, deck and docks. We had no issues but it's not private (if that's what you're looking for) - actually, the guys in the twin cottage were great fun.
2. This is a lake cottage, and yes, there will be spiders as there are bugs. No matter how much cleaning you do there will likely be some multi-legged critters. This cottage probably has a couple of places that the cleaning rag has missed, but overall we found it VERY clean. If you're picky, though, about some overlooked places... well, good luck to you. We've rented some very expensive places with foot-long dustbunnies under the couches.
3. The beach described here is indeed .25 miles from the house - as another renter complained. That's a 5-minute walk for most people (!!) and you can park if you're so inclined to make the 15-second drive. The beach is sandy and the water is roped off with a great sandy bottom. There are a couple of picnic tables too.
Overall, Cathy (the owner) is a love to work with and extremely flexible. We would definitely return for a quick get-away!"

"This wonderful 2 bedroom condo is in a great location and has everything you need for a wonderful vacation. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need including Tupperware! The condo was decorated in a beach theme, that really made you feel like you were on vacation.
The resort itself had enough to do to keep everyone busy, from a wonderful beachfront location (walk out from first floor was very convenient with kids) to the indoor and outdoor pools to the basketball hoop in front of the unit.
I would highly recommend this condo and am hopeful we can rent it again!"
