"This is the second year we've come to Swain's Lake and we wondered if it could be possibly be as wonderful as our visit last year. Stepping onto the deck to see the lake was like coming home and when our last day arrived we, again, didn't want to leave. Mary Ann and Ken met us upon arrival to make sure we had everything we needed; they are wonderful, thoughtful hosts! We enjoyed many moments on the upper deck, eating meals, reading, sipping coffee and watching the changing light on the lake. We explored the nooks and crannies of the lake in the kayaks and cooled off by bobbing just off the sandy beach in the warm lake waters. Swains Lake is very clean so you get to see lots of wildlife: loons (our favorites), great blue herons, ducks and geese, hawks and fish darting in the clear waters. Every morning I watched a muskrat make her way along the shore right next to the house leaving a glassy V-shaped wake behind her. The dogs LOVED fetching their toy sticks into the water from the beach and the human swimmers in the family swam across the lake several times. In addition to several Barrington hikes, we took a day trip to Pawtuckaway State Forest and were rewarded with a beautiful hike to the top of North Mountain. Must tries are the Stonehouse Baking company (donuts! bagels!), the Calef Country Store (delicious sandwiches, homemade dog treats and the famous CCS aged cheddar cheese) and Zampa Restaurant. We've already made reservations for two weeks next year!"

"We had a wonderful time at your lake house. Your home is beautiful and has the most magnificent view of the lake. There was plenty of space for all of us and was extremely comfortable. The kitchen had everything we could have asked for and more. The outside deck is much bigger than the pictures show and we had many great meals out there! I highly recommend this property if you want a beautiful, relaxing time at a lovely lake!"

"What a beautiful lake house! I was fortunate enough to spend my vacation at this adorable little cottage during peak fall foliage this year. What a charmer! Though I'll freely admit to not spending a lot of daytime hours there- there's SO MUCH to see in New England and so little time to get it all in, lol- it was the perfect place to come "home" to every night and enjoy the fire and a glass of wine. I loved waking up to the fog rolling across the lake, and the quiet! It was so peaceful there- wish I could have another week just for that!
The cottage is in a great location- central to a lot of the things I wanted to see. An hour outside of Salem, MA; three hours from Burlington, VT; maybe an hour and a half or so from Boston, MA. Mount Washington is doable, so is Portland, ME.
Everything I needed was provided in the cottage and I didn't have problems of any kind. One thing that I don't remember reading about, and didn't anticipate ahead of time, were the steps from the car landing down to the cottage, there are a lot of them! I was okay with it but if you have problems with stairs it's something to consider. I had a heavy piece of luggage I was using (3 weeks on the road) and I ended up not packing it down them and instead just grabbing a set of clothes each night as I returned to the cottage for the next day.
Overall HIGHLY recommend this place- when I return to New England I'd love to look into renting it again!"

"This property is simply fantastic, We have used HomeAway about 10 times for vacations, and this is definitely our favorite one so far. The lot is the best you could ask for. The sandy beach has a very gentle slope so you can dip your feet into the clean water or slowly go in deeper. There is a dock, and a grassy yard with a firepit. It is incredibly private. There is a fence on one side and tons of trees and bushes on the other side, so you are not on top of your neighbors, like most places. There is also a huge deck and two patio sets so you could sit 10 for dinner out there. We used the two kayaks every day to paddle around the lake, and it was beautiful. We tried the paddle boat too, but the kayaks are more fun.
Inside, the house is open concept with high ceilings and large rooms. We like to cook, and there was every kitchen tool and pan you would ever need. Plus a dishwasher, which is unusual for a lake rental. The house is super clean and neat. We were able to easily hook up our laptop to the TV to watch some Netflix, plus there is a dvd player to watch movies (there is a Redbox about 10 minutes away). The owneres really have thought of everything. We went to Dantes one night, which is a fantastic Italian restaurant nearby. We also went to Smokey Goodness Pub for some great barbecue one night. But our favorite thing to do was just sit on the deck or in the living room and look out at the lake and relax.
I HIGHLY recommend this house, it is exactly what we wanted in a relaxing lake house. I wish we didn't have to leave!"
