  • Excellent Fall Getaway

"Just recently on the Columbus Day weekend my wife and two other couples rented the Forest Lake property. As with all of the other reviews, this property was everything we expected and read about. The house was certainly more than spacious enough for six adults and everything we needed was included in the house. The views of Forest Lake are splendid and every night we had a fire outside in the fire pit and enjoyed the warmth and solitude with an adult beverage. The city of Keene, New Hampshire is very close and it really is a nice New England style city and very clean with a variety of restaurants. I would certainly recommend visiting the city and enjoying the shops and the pleasant atmosphere. If one should run low on food and house supplies there is a fantastic grocery store on your left just before you arrive into Keene. Since we were at Forest Lake during peak foliage we made a trip to Vermont and visited Stratton Mountain which is not that long of a drive from Forest Lake and the foliage on Route 30 North and Route 100 South was outstanding. Both of these routes take you thru traditional New England country side and well worth the adventure. Also, another great foliage route is to travel route 9 which will take you to Hillsborough. Once in Hillsborough there is a tavern that looks very small but when it comes to serving a big time gourmet meal, it is a winner. This place could easily be a Food & Wine destination. After spending a few hours each day on our leaf peeping journeys we retreated to the lake house and simply relaxed by the dock or the upper deck just taking in the fantastic scenery. Since the house came complete with everything one would need to prepare and serve a gourmet meal, we feasted on specialty prepared dinners and enjoyed the comfort of sitting at the large dinning table and talking about our adventures we experienced for the day. Both my wife and myself have been using Home Away and VRBO for our summer vacations and Fall getaways for the past ten years. We were so surprised when we received a call from the owner of the property on Friday night upon our arrival and he welcomed us to his home and inquired if we needed anything. This has never happened ever before with our previous rentals. So in closing I would highly recommend that if anyone wants to rent a spacious, clean and perfectly located home in a traditional New England setting then certainly consider staying at Forest Lake. You will appreciate your "HOME AWAY"."

  • Wonderful family retreat

"Four winds was perfect for our annual summer family vacation with grandparents, parents, and five children ages 6 to 12. We all enjoyed the pool and the fantastic views. The home is arranged so the whole group can congregate or so that anyone wishing some time away from the whole group can find a place to retreat to. We took several hikes, one of them easy enough for the older folks, spent time playing ball outside, enjoying the pool, playing some of the many games available, watching movies, admiring the beautiful surroundings, making use of the game room, and relaxing. We hope to visit it again, and highly recommend this place."

  • Nice place, great to run the Clarence DeMar marathon.

"We had a nice time at the house. Everything was as advertised. The lake was great. The hot tub was nice. There are kayaks and other boats that make the lake a lot of fun to use. Everything you need for a great outdoor weekend is right there, including boats, life jackets, swings, places to make fires, fantastic kitchen and grill, places to make fires -- give it a whirl. It's a steal! Beds were comfortable. Housed 10 of us, with children, with no problem. Kids ages 1-6 were happy and safe. The stars were fantastic and the deck is the best place to see them."

  • PERFECTION

"If you are a true Lake Connoisseur, put this on your Top 10 List. Swimmer's & paddler's paradise. Quiet. Clean. Loons! Stars! Beautifully equipped kitchen. Totally unobstrusive but lovely young couple owner/landlord and well-behaved & charming old dog. For this reviewer, the best part is the water: the location on a tiny point of land leaves you surrounded on 3 sides by the soft, glimmering, shimmering, inviting water of Lake Skatatukee (pronounced with emphasis on the "-ta"). If relaxation is what you seek, if swimming, canoeing and reading are your idea of a good time, this is the place for you! (Bring your mountain bike - many roads in the area are dirt & gravel). (ps: bedroom mattress is quite soft).""
