Overview of Monadnock Region Vacation Rentals
Comfortable Monadnock Region Vacation Rentals
The Monadnock region is located in the southern part of New Hampshire. Known for its scenic beauty, historic covered bridges and rich cultural and historic heritage, it's a welcoming haven for vacationers. Monadnocks are unique geological features. They are so named because they are characteristically hard rock mounts made up of quartzite and volcanic rock that has remained after the surrounding softer rock has been eroded away. Scenic roadways and beautiful mountain vistas make fantastic photographic opportunities, especially in the fall season when the leaves turn all different shades of rusty hues.
In line with the beauty of the surrounding area, many of the rentals are stately homes set in beautiful gardens and mountain settings. Some are quiet cabins on a lakeshore where you can fish and boat in the lazy summer days. Others are tucked away in forest groves, offering tranquil seclusion and great opportunities for bird-watching. These homes may be in remote locations but almost all have full amenities of hot and cold running water, comfortable furnishings, cozy fireplaces, fully equipped kitchens and a host of modern conveniences. Many can accommodate small groups and extended families, and are often used for family reunions or small weddings. The Monadnocks is a region that you want to be able to explore at leisure and having a vacation home allows you the freedom to do just that. While out on your explorations, you can stock up with delicious fresh produce from one of the local farmers' markets and enjoy a home-cooked meal at the end of a busy day.
Changing Seasons in the Monadnocks
It's difficult to choose which season to visit Monadnock region cabins, for each has its own unique attractions. The summertime is great for exploring the lakes, quaint towns and villages, historic sites and hiking the forest trails. The fall is spectacularly beautiful with the foliage turning golden and red colors and creating a royal carpet on the forest floor. The season has its own magic and is a photographer's dream. As the cold winter months arrive, so does the snow, dusting everything in a sparkling white blanket. The towns and ski resorts are transformed into to a hive of activity, especially over weekends and holiday periods. As the snow melts, the forests and mountains once again become filled with vibrant colors and sounds of nature. Spring is an almost dream-like season in which to visit the Monadnocks.
Traveling in the Monadnocks
The Monadnocks are just a short drive from Boston, Hartford and New York City. Many visitors that come from other parts of North America use one of these cities as a hub to fly into and then travel to the region using a rental car. Because the towns and many of the Monadnock lodging options are quite remote, it's a good idea to have your own vehicle in which to explore the region.
Monadnock Region's Attractions
The area is famous for its beautiful covered bridges and there are route guides you can find at the local tourist centers which will guide you to the various sites. Well preserved and each one unique, it is well worth taking the time to seek them out. Throughout the year, there are festivals and events in the various towns and villages. A hot air balloon festival takes place each year in July and the colorful balloons can be seen soaring above the treetops. The Monadnock State Park has some excellent hiking trails. Maps are available from the park entrance points and hikers must be adequately prepared when heading out on the trails.
