  • Great Room on the slopes

"I brought my wife and two boys here to Mountain Creek. The room was everything we expected. Very comfortable good size. The kitchenette was helpful with kids whose menu is limited to peanut butter sandwiches and chicken nuggets. Pools were a hit, remember to bring a robe they are outdoors. Ski locker worked great and parking was easy. We would definitely stay again. Owner was easy to deal with and refunded security deposit promptly."

  • PERFECT WEEKEND

"A group of friends and I (professionals in our mid to upper 20s) recently stayed in this unit for a winter weekend getaway. From the moment we walked into this LOVELY unit with INCREDIBLE views, we had an absolute blast. There was always something for everyone to do! First off, the unit is spacious, clean, well-furnished, and has breathtaking views of the mountain. We immediately began cooking in the kitchen (it has all the utensils you need) and watching the skiiers/boarders from our balcony, which is maybe 100 feet from the beginner ski lift. On Friday night, we went tubing, followed by a swim in the outdoor pool and hot tub! Saturday was reserved for skiing and boarding. We were able to save $$ on lunch because we had leftover chicken parm from the night before and it was super convenient to stop by the unit. The members of the group who were tired of skiing relaxed for a while -- they made hot chocolate, watched us from the balcony, and lit a fire. The others went back out for a twilight run. Once again, we hit up the outdoor pool and hot tub, which was really amazing because so much snow had fallen around it the night before. On Sunday, we sat by the fire, watched the flatscreen TV, and yes, went swimming again. Truly, every individual on the trip had a wonderful time. I was fortunate enough to book this unit just about one month in advance. Bill, the owner, was extremely courteous and prompt in responding to my inquiries. The staff on site were all very friendly. Our friends who have seen photos and video footage from our weekend are dying to get in on the next trip. We can't wait to come back :-)"

  • Wonderful lake house vacation!

"We are home from our trip to New Jersey and I wanted to write to thank you for providing such a GREAT house on the lake. All of us loved our time there! We were amazed at how well-stocked your house was. You thought of everything anyone could possibly need! The beds were very comfortable. My 2 sons had never slept in bunk beds before, so it was a treat for them to do so during this vacation. There was plenty of room for all six of us to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Your spot on the lake is beautiful and we spent as much time as possible out on the deck taking in the scenery. Your location was perfect for us because it's not far from my sister-in-law and it was also easy to get into NYC. We hope to come back one day soon, maybe in the summer or autumn next time, so we can experience a different season on Lake Hopatcong. Thank you again!!!!!"

Skylands Region Travel Tips

Easy Access to Skylands, New Jersey From Skylands Vacation Rentals

The region known as Skylands is located in the northwest corner of New Jersey. Here, Skylands lodging is close to 60,000 acres of national parkland. It is a great area to enjoy the vast open spaces and outdoor activities available. It is easily accessible via major state and interstate highways, such as the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. It is also within an easy distance of Newark Liberty International airport and well serviced by Amtrak. The region includes the counties of Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex and Warren.

Come and See the Wolves, Bear, Deer and Muskrats at Skylands Lodging

This diverse region, with its lakes, rivers and rolling hills scattered with farms provides a stunning backdrop to Skylands vacation homes. Skylands contains two National Parks: Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and Morristown National Historic Park. Delaware Water Gap contains 40 miles of the Middle Delaware River running through uninhabited forest. This is a perfect escape from the world where the beautifully clean river provides great swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting or tubing opportunities. Throughout the winter, the trails become a perfect setting for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. The area has been a haven for hikers for over 200 years, with mile after mile of wilderness. One of the dozen or so buildings within the park is early 1900s Millbrook Village where volunteer "villagers" reenact bygone days for visitors.

Lakota Wolf Preserve provides a unique opportunity to watch these mysterious and elusive creatures in their natural habitat. There is nothing quite like spotting a pack of the local Tundra, Timber and Arctic wolves, or just hearing their distinctive, chilling howls. Lucky visitors may also spot a bobcat or fox during their trip. At Spruce Run, with close to 30 different species of fish, visitors can fish for bass, perch, carp, trout, pike and many others. Once you have caught enough, you should take them home and throw them on the grill. At the Round Valley Reservoir, divers and swimmers are welcome to take advantage of the clean waters. The Merrill Creek Reservoir is 650 acres of wilderness area where visitors may spot the local residents, such as black bear, white-tailed deer, fox, muskrats and birds such as bald eagles, hawks and herons. It is also a great fishing spot with several species of trout and bass there.

Shop at the Local Farmers' Market and Catch Your own Dinner

Visitors to Skylands vacation rentals will also want to explore the many local towns, like High Bridge, Newton, Flemington and Washington, where the local farmers' markets will provide the opportunity to buy some wonderful fresh produce to take back to your vacation home. Phillipsburg, with its historic Victorian buildings, is a place for family fun, with train rides and river boat trips, rafting and tubing. This region is a big producer of blueberries and cranberries and visitors will enjoy sampling the local dishes, filled with these staple products. For those who enjoy a round of golf, there are fabulous courses around the area.

Bring the Dog to Your Skylands Vacation Homes

Skylands vacation homes are as unique as the region. Whether you are looking for a romantic hideaway for two or a large family home, there is a perfect choice available. Rentals come packed with everything you need to make yourself at home. Many properties are on the lake and have decks, docks and some even include a boat! There are properties with wireless internet access, BBQs, and entertainment systems. There’s even room for the dog as many homes are happy to accommodate pets.
