The region known as Skylands is located in the northwest corner of New Jersey. Here, Skylands lodging is close to 60,000 acres of national parkland. Skylands contains two National Parks: Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and Morristown National Historic Park. Delaware Water Gap contains 40 miles of the Middle Delaware River running through uninhabited forest. This is a perfect escape from the world where the beautifully clean river provides great swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting or tubing opportunities. Throughout the winter, the trails become a perfect setting for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. The area has been a haven for hikers for over 200 years, with mile after mile of wilderness. One of the dozen or so buildings within the park is early 1900s Millbrook Village where volunteer "villagers" reenact bygone days for visitors.

Lakota Wolf Preserve provides a unique opportunity to watch these mysterious and elusive creatures in their natural habitat. There is nothing quite like spotting a pack of the local Tundra, Timber and Arctic wolves, or just hearing their distinctive, chilling howls. Lucky visitors may also spot a bobcat or fox during their trip. At Spruce Run, with close to 30 different species of fish, visitors can fish for bass, perch, carp, trout, pike and many others. Once you have caught enough, you should take them home and throw them on the grill. At the Round Valley Reservoir, divers and swimmers are welcome to take advantage of the clean waters. The Merrill Creek Reservoir is 650 acres of wilderness area where visitors may spot the local residents, such as black bear, white-tailed deer, fox, muskrats and birds such as bald eagles, hawks and herons. It is also a great fishing spot with several species of trout and bass there.

Visitors to Skylands vacation rentals will also want to explore the many local towns, like High Bridge, Newton, Flemington and Washington, where the local farmers' markets will provide the opportunity to buy some wonderful fresh produce to take back to your vacation home. Phillipsburg, with its historic Victorian buildings, is a place for family fun, with train rides and river boat trips, rafting and tubing. This region is a big producer of blueberries and cranberries and visitors will enjoy sampling the local dishes, filled with these staple products. For those who enjoy a round of golf, there are fabulous courses around the area.
