"We thoroughly enjoyed our off-season visit to Cape May in March and April. We enjoy walking, so were able to get almost everywhere without a car -- shops, restaurants, beaches, etc. We did drive to a few farther places, like The Lobster House or Lucky Bones, but that only took a few minutes. The Cape May-Lewes Ferry is only about 10 minutes away by car. You can also get around easily by bicycle.
The house is very comfortable and spacious. (The bedrooms are probably the largest I've seen in a South Jersey shore rental.) Although it was just the two of us plus an occasional visitor, I'm sure you really could sleep 10 comfortably. There is a nice side yard, so it was convenient for our dog on those occasions when we couldn't take her for a walk. And the front porch is a great place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. (Although it was a little too chilly when we were there.)
The kitchen was well equipped, with M/W, D/W, toaster, nice pots and pans, utensils, dishes for a large family, etc. (this is not an exhaustive list). A toaster oven would have been nice, but we made do with the full-sized oven for reheating leftovers. Since we spent almost two months at the house, we cooked many meals at home (although it was VERY tempting to eat at many of the fine restaurants nearby). We had everything we needed to prepare our meals, including a nice gas grill. (I did have to buy some S&P shakers, however -- but we left them for future visitors.) I highly recommend a stop at the Lobster House fish market early in the day to pick up some great seafood for grilling back at the house -- you can't get anything fresher and more delicious! (And you'll save a bundle over some of the pricier restaurants...)
For groceries, great subs and cold cuts, check out the West End Market, three blocks away on Broadway at the end of Fifth Ave. And the Acme right in town is tiny but packed with everything you need. We also loved the Seaside Cheese Co., on Park Blvd., just across the street from the CVS.
We were there just as spring bird migration season started, so we were able to take advantage of many birding trips with some of the top-notch birders in the area. Stop by the Audubon office or the Cape May Bird Observatory for information on the best birding spots for the time of year you are visiting.
Overall, we had a wonderful visit to Cape May, and this comfortable and well-maintained house had a lot to do with it. I hope we have a chance to stay there again."
