  • Lovely Beyond Measure

"We were meant to stay at the Jewel only 2 nights, but just couldn't pull ourselves away. We ended up staying a week. The location, the solitude, the views are all so inviting. The casita is warm and welcoming. Sitting on the front porch, watching the light change across the meadow, greeting the horses in the morning…it was magical. We have stayed in many other casitas over the years in Taos, and this is truly a Jewel."

  • Wonderful place to stay in downtown Taos

"We stayed twice in December during ski trips to Taos. Once in the larger house and then in the smaller casita. Both places were well equipped, inviting and sufficiently warm for the cold December nights. They felt like home! The location is superb as we walked to Christmas festivities in the plaza and to nearby restaurants. David was great to deal with but the real treat was getting to know Yavanne. She took excellent care of us, made sure that we had everything we needed, and even offered to cook for my 4 college aged boys (sons and nephews) that came with insatiable appetites. What a godsend to find food waiting for us when we returned from the ski hill. I recommend asking her to cook for your family/group!! She is a superb cook - better than the restaurants nearby - best guacamole that we have had and nice traditional roasted green chili stew (spicy which our NM kids have been missing in college!). We are already planning additional ski trips to Taos and will be talking to Yavanne about cooking more dishes for us. See you soon Yavanne and next time we are bringing some good wine to go with your food! Thanks."

  • Quiet Solitude

"I come to the Taos area twice a year for extended stays due to training for my profession. This 1 BR guest house is the best location I have found for any long term stay. It is in a quiet neighborhood and has a fully stocked kitchen (you will want for nothing) to do your cooking and a washer/dryer to do laundry. Burt is an exceptional host and goes out of his way to make you feel at home and meet your needs. When an unexpected snow storm hit, he actually took his truck out and checked the road conditions for me as I only had a two wheel drive. You are close enough to drive into the thick of town in a few minutes, but can come home to your private, quiet nest. The unit is impeccably clean and large compared to most 1 BR casitas here. The bedroom and bathroom have beautiful carved doors for privacy if two or more are staying. You will love the kiva fireplace in winter and Burt supplies plenty of wood and personal lighting instruction. The unit also has baseboard heating so you don't have to rough it. The only down side is the spotty wi-fi reception on mobile devices such as Iphone and Ipad. Bring your laptop if you plan to work as that connection is better. The satellite TV keeps you in touch with the world if you desire. The bed is extra firm so I bring my own topper, but that is just personal preference. I'm already planning to stay here again in six months when I return for more training."

  • Wonderful hosts, cozy casita, great location

"Our hosts were wonderful to work with. It was my husband's birthday and I asked for recommendations on bakeries to order him a cake. Shaun offered to pick up my cake and have it waiting AND she got him a poinsettia! That was so very kind and thoughtful. The casita was just what we needed for a short stay, close to everything, comfortable and cozy with creative artwork. There was plenty of firewood, the bathroom was great - good water pressure, plenty of hot water and a good heater and large fluffy towels. There was good reading light by the sofa and a couple of books I hadn't read so I was in heaven (it was pretty cold outside!). My favorite winery, Black Mesa, has a tasting room just down the street, and nice family owned Italian restaurant is just on the corner by the casita - dinner was very tasty and the service was excellent. We did cook in a little, but the choices for dining are really good within walking distance."
