  • Fantastic Weekend Getaway

"My girlfriend and I wanted a weekend getaway from the busy life in NYC and for our 2 year anniversary. We could not have been happier about our stay. The place was perfect for a romantic getaway. Looks like an older rustic farm cottage on the outside and is beautifully furnished on the inside - hardwood, new appliances, comfortable beds...so simple yet has everything you need. Could definitely tell the place has a lot of meaning to the owners. Julie (owner) was fantastic - easy going, great to talk to, very accommodating. We were disappointed we didn't get to meet her until we were leaving. We went hiking at a nearby park and traveled to Newport (about 40 minutes away). Everything about it was perfect. We will be coming back very soon in the future!!!"

  • Large House, Great Fishing, Responsive Owner

"My extended family of 9 adults, 2 children, and 4 dogs spent a week this August at Lago House. INSIDE: The house is very "utilitarian"- not a lot of "homey" extras, very simple décor. That being said, there was room for everyone with the 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. The bathrooms were acceptable in cleanliness as were the bedrooms. The downstairs family room and bedrooms were quite musty smelling when we arrived, but that was easily rectified by opening some windows and emptying the dehumidifier so it would continue to run. The children appreciated the big TV and couch in the downstairs family room on the rainy days to watch the Disney channel. The biggest con inside was probably the kitchen. Several of the cabinet drawers were broken, there may have been mouse poop in one, the dishwasher hardly cleaned any dishes (even after they had been rinsed), and I discovered a leak under the sink on check-out day. It could use some maintenance. Some supplies were lacking- there were only 6 coffee mugs and 8 forks to be found. I ended up donating 4 mugs I bought at the Walmart in Oneonta (20 miles away) to the cause. We used the stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, washer, dryer & propane grill with no issue. (We did not use the hot tub so I cannot comment on that.) OUTSIDE: The location is quite rural as described in the listing- best to be prepared and bring your supplies with you. It is quite a ways to get to any store! The large yard was great for ladder golf and football. The swings were used for hours on end. The firepit down by the water was great for smores and corn roasted on the coals. The lake is small, but the fishing was quite good. Our group caught several large bass, crappie, and pickerel, as well as perch and blue gills (all catch & release). The rowboats were in good repair and were used several times daily. As for swimming, a couple of our group swam in the middle of the lake from the kayaks we brought along. The lake frontage of the camp and area around the dock was quite congested with weeds, algae, and the like. None of us were willing to sink our feet into that! And a word of caution- the deck gets slippery when wet with rain. Be careful on the stairs! OVERALL: Lago House was large enough for our group and accepted pets. The fishermen enjoyed the offerings of Titus Lake. There are some areas that could use some improvement, but none that kept us from enjoying our vacation together. My boys say they would love to go back!"

  • Very nice cabin in a quiet location

"My husband, 3 month old daughter and I stayed here for a long weekend. We arrived on a Thursday night and left on Saturday. Friday was a cold day so after going to town for breakfast, we went back to the cabin and hung out there all day - relaxing, napping and enjoying the quiet! This cabin was very nicely renovated and everything in the main room and bedroom were very nice! The kitchen was well-equipped. We didn't cook in the cabin, but I made coffee every morning and there seemed to be enough cooking supplies for those who wanted to cook. The living room has a nice 'fake' fireplace as a heater and it was very cozy. The bedroom was perfect as well. The bed was comfortable and there was ample closet space. The bathroom was adequate, but not nearly as well-done as the rest of the cabin. It looked a bit shabby. One of the best features is the outdoor hot tub! We enjoyed it in the evenings and a chilly afternoon. One suggestion to the owner would be to supply additional towels. We only had two towels and had to use them for showers and post-hot tub. Note: this house is not walking distance to town. It's about a half mile from 212 and then, once on 212, it's another mile or so to the village green. If you are looking for a place where you can walk to town...this is not it. However, if you want proximity to town but a remote, quiet place to return to at the end of an outing, then this place is great! We ate breakfast both mornings at Oriole 9 - love this place and highly recommend it! We had dinner at the Bear Cafe and at the Red Onion - both were excellent and a very short drive from the house."

  • Snowy paradise!

"My husband, teen sons, large furry dog and I had a wonderful time in Jackie and Paul's cabin. We wandered the snowy fields, skied and warmed our bellies with Sweet Sue's pancakes. It was the perfect combination of privacy (teenage boys) and family time, with nightly board games in front of the wood stove. The house was not wanting for anything and the beds and bed linens were extra wonderful. The basement with ping pong and pool was heavily used and the large furry dog had lots of room to chase her ball. We hope to visit in all of the seasons!"
