  • Perfect Place for A Family Reunion

"Shakespeare on the Hudson was the perfect location for our family reunion. With thirty people ranging in age from eight months to mid seventies, we were a big and eclectic group, but the River Lodge met everyone's needs. Lots of space, a beautifully appointed house, plenty of big areas for congregating and socializing, an enormous lawn which was perfect for impromptu team sports, a fire pit for s'mores, and of course the beautiful Hudson River right there-- this house truly has it all. The kids had fun swimming in the pool outdoors and playing pool indoors, and the kitchen was big enough for many cooks at once. (One suggestion: the kitchen could use a couple of large cooking pots and large serving bowls). The walls are surprisingly thick-- noise traveled between the rooms right next to each other but not from one part of the house to another. Bob was quick to send Dave over to fix the kitchen door that was stuck, and he was friendly and fixed it quickly. We loved being there in the summertime and took full advantage of swimming and kayaking in the river, hiking the trails, and chasing fireflies in the woods, but this house seems ideally suited to every season. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the house, but the last night we ate at the Stewart House's River Garden, a beautiful B&B and restaurant that is part of Shakespeare on the Hudson. Kim was very helpful in accommodating our group and arranging for a tasty buffet that met our food requests and pleased all age groups. Everybody agreed that we should have our next reunion at Shakespeare on the Hudson again!"

  • A nice escape from the city

"My wife, 2 year old son and I stayed at Tusten Farms Manor House for a week in June and really enjoyed ourselves. We were looking to get out of the city and just spend some quality time together (most of our trips seem to be with friends or extensive family). The house is at the end of private road with only two other homes and is surrounded by trees. You can't see the neighbors and it certainly makes you feel like you have your own bit of peace and quiet. The tennis court and pool are situated a little bit away from the house and are themselves surrounded by trees which makes for a great setting as you feel like you're swimming or playing in the middle of a forest and not in a backyard. We used the pool every day. The home is well kept and the owner responsive in terms of answering questions, returning the security deposit, etc. The drive from/to Manhattan was about 2 hours but on the way we took our time and stopped at Whole Foods and a few other places to pick up items for the week. If you're looking for fresh air, quiet, and a nice home with pool to enjoy both (i.e. a break from the city) then Tusten Farms Manor House is likely for you. It was one of our more relaxing, enjoyable trips."

  • Convenient and Clean!

"Our two main concerns: 1. Our dogs 2. Proximity to town. This home exceeded our expectations on both! The fenced in yard was good enough for a neurotic dog mom like myself, with chicken wire at the bottom of the wood fencing where there would have been even an inch of space. The home was located within a few blocks of Tinker Street. Do you know how many times we've rented houses that say "close to town" but they mean a couple of miles? This is right in town, yet it's on a quiet enough street, surrounded by trees and that fence that I mentioned. The house was tasteful and clean, with all the amenities one can ask for. We thank you and our dogs thank you for a great vacation! Oh and PS: The quickest security deposit refund ever."

  • Beautiful property in upstate NY

"Gianni and his wife are wonderful hosts and have a great house in upstate New York. We were two couples looking to get away from the city and had a wonderfully relaxing weekend at their home. The house is great especially if you are a couple traveling alone or with kids (the downstairs room has twin beds). The property is breathtaking and there are two lovely ponds that you can swim in. The water is cold but very refreshing on a summer day. Even if you don't swim, it's nice to bring a blanket and sit by the water. The firepit may be one of the best features. We sat for hours in the evening by the fire. If you're interested in wood, Gianni can tell you about the diverse range of trees on his property as well as teach you about some of the gorgeous wood he's harvested. This was a part of the trip we found very enjoyable. Our only two issues during the trip were that the grill stopped working and also that the bottle opener in the house was worn out and didn't work very well. I believe Gianni was planning to get a new grill, but I would suggest bringing your own wine opener if they don't have a new one:) While in town, I'd recommend checking if there is a local auction happening. We attended an auction which was a fun experience for all and a great place to find amazing deals (if you have the time and patience!)."
