  • The River House -- A Romantic Retreat

"What can I say this house has it all! This is my second time staying at one of the Shakespeare on the Hudson properties and it's true when they say "second time's the charm"! Our first trip to the Catskills, we stayed at the Hudson Hotel, and while it was gorgeous, we did not have a pleasant experience. And when I say that, I don't mean the property, but the overall experience with the locals. However when I explain the circumstances of our first visit, the kind folks at Shakespeare On the Hudson were determined to change our minds, and offered to let us check out the Yellow House for a weekend. Before I get into the description of our stay, I must talk first about the employees at Shakespeare on the Hudson, which is undoubtedly the true asset to this amazing property. I had the pleasure of working with the booking agent for this property for over a year; Kat, and her the team are some of the nicest warmhearted individuals you will ever have the pleasure to work with. She is truly the heart of the property and goes above and beyond to make sure all visitors feel welcomed informed and well prepared for their stay. As you can imagine with the property this big is very important to be able to stay in contact with the caretakers and other folks that can help you with any questions. The property itself is simply beautiful! Breathe-taking views and the house is charming and well decorated with a rustic feel. It's quite spacious and we had a group of people come with us to make memories that will last a life time. There are three things to note about this property -- the property uses well water, which is harmless but quite stinky. Bring lots of incense and scented bubble bath. We went in October and the Jacuzzi and pool were perfect, also there is a fire pit to warm up by if you want to roast some marshmallows. Last but not least, this is place is a photographers dream come true, there are so many wonderful places to take amazing photos. -Jenni Lewis-Ford"

  • Catskill Hollow

"This house, this land, this town is a dream. You leave the city and you wake up in a fairytale. My husband, and most recently our new baby, have been staying at this home for over 3 years and each time we find the trip to be more fulfilling then the last. One could spend a lifetime on the porch alone! But the community offers many day trips to tease you away and fill your day with joy! The local food scene (inclusive of all the fresh farm goods, local restaurants, and the food coop) ensure your stay is filled with delicious treats. And the surrounding villages provide endless entertainment. I cannot, with words, cast the spell on you that this house will! The owner is great to work with, easily assessable if you have questions and will point you in the direction you need to have a great stay. Catskill Hollow cannot be beat! It IS the heart of the Catskills."

  • Top Notch Experience

"The perfect spot for a girls / mamas weekend away. The house is lovingly taken care of. Sitting by the wood stove, drinking wine with your friends, what a treat. We didn't want to leave."

  • Very nice cabin in a quiet location

"My husband, 3 month old daughter and I stayed here for a long weekend. We arrived on a Thursday night and left on Saturday. Friday was a cold day so after going to town for breakfast, we went back to the cabin and hung out there all day - relaxing, napping and enjoying the quiet! This cabin was very nicely renovated and everything in the main room and bedroom were very nice! The kitchen was well-equipped. We didn't cook in the cabin, but I made coffee every morning and there seemed to be enough cooking supplies for those who wanted to cook. The living room has a nice 'fake' fireplace as a heater and it was very cozy. The bedroom was perfect as well. The bed was comfortable and there was ample closet space. The bathroom was adequate, but not nearly as well-done as the rest of the cabin. It looked a bit shabby. One of the best features is the outdoor hot tub! We enjoyed it in the evenings and a chilly afternoon. One suggestion to the owner would be to supply additional towels. We only had two towels and had to use them for showers and post-hot tub. Note: this house is not walking distance to town. It's about a half mile from 212 and then, once on 212, it's another mile or so to the village green. If you are looking for a place where you can walk to town...this is not it. However, if you want proximity to town but a remote, quiet place to return to at the end of an outing, then this place is great! We ate breakfast both mornings at Oriole 9 - love this place and highly recommend it! We had dinner at the Bear Cafe and at the Red Onion - both were excellent and a very short drive from the house."
