  • Absolutely beautiful spacious home near Windham

"Great home, very spacious. We had two families (total of two couples and 5 boys ages 5-13). Plenty of room, three nice bedrooms including a master bath with jacuzzi tub. Loft bedroom with 4 bunks and a pullout. And a massive finished basement as well. Everything is up to date and clean (kitchen is huge, with an eat in area and a separate dining room space that we didn't even use). Great fireplace, beautiful outdoor views of the mountains. About 10 minute drive to Windham with amazing views along rt 23. Owners very nice and easy to deal with. Will definitely be back."

  • Perfect Weekend Getaway

"We just spent a long weekend at the house and can't say enough about it. It was more than comfortable for 6 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs. The house is beautifully furnished and the "mancave" is even better than the pictures on the website. It comes with everything you'll need. Just pick up some food and drink for grilling each night. But as nice as the home and mancave are, the patio/grill/fire pit area overlooking the creek and waterfalls was my favorite part. So quiet and peaceful. I can't wait to return when the air/water are a bit warmer to try the swimming hole out. The house is secluded down a long driveway so we felt comfortable letting our dog off leash to wander and explore the woods without concern that he might end up near a road/cars. Just a forewarning, you won't receive keys to the house. So when you leave for day trips you leave the house unlocked. As an urban dweller who is used to locking his door when I leave for just 5 minutes, it took a little getting adjusted to this. But the owner seems to be right, the house is secluded and far enough off the road that no one is going to come visiting the house. That being said, we all really had a great time and agreed we would love to return."

  • great house in a cool area

"My family stayed at the house for 1 month and had a wonderful time. The house was as described and looked brand new. House and kitchen had all the amenities we could want (including a fantastic blender!). We had one small problem and help was there in no time! I think they must have changed the bed in the master since the last review because we found a very comfortable queen mattress. The neighborhood is very quiet and neighbors are so far apart you really don't know they are there. Lake is small but nice for paddling around, my children went for a row or paddle almost every day - if you are looking for serious fishing you will need to go to one of the very nearby rivers. Livingston Manor and Roscoe are both cool little towns with great restaurants and a very authentic German bakery."

  • Perfect Place for A Family Reunion

"Shakespeare on the Hudson was the perfect location for our family reunion. With thirty people ranging in age from eight months to mid seventies, we were a big and eclectic group, but the River Lodge met everyone's needs. Lots of space, a beautifully appointed house, plenty of big areas for congregating and socializing, an enormous lawn which was perfect for impromptu team sports, a fire pit for s'mores, and of course the beautiful Hudson River right there-- this house truly has it all. The kids had fun swimming in the pool outdoors and playing pool indoors, and the kitchen was big enough for many cooks at once. (One suggestion: the kitchen could use a couple of large cooking pots and large serving bowls). The walls are surprisingly thick-- noise traveled between the rooms right next to each other but not from one part of the house to another. Bob was quick to send Dave over to fix the kitchen door that was stuck, and he was friendly and fixed it quickly. We loved being there in the summertime and took full advantage of swimming and kayaking in the river, hiking the trails, and chasing fireflies in the woods, but this house seems ideally suited to every season. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the house, but the last night we ate at the Stewart House's River Garden, a beautiful B&B and restaurant that is part of Shakespeare on the Hudson. Kim was very helpful in accommodating our group and arranging for a tasty buffet that met our food requests and pleased all age groups. Everybody agreed that we should have our next reunion at Shakespeare on the Hudson again!"
