Amazing Labor day weekend
"We booked the house very last minute due to last minute cancellation and could not be happier. I already gave up searching as everything was super-overpriced or booked. This house had a great price for what we god. It is 2.5 hours driving from downtown NYC where we live. The house was easy to find although cell phone reception in the area is very poor. Our friends got there before us and got to meet the housekeeper who finished preparing the house for us. It was clean!!! We were 4 adults with 2 small kids and a medium-sized dog. It is a 2 story house with 2nd floor being a major entertainment area and sleeping area downstairs. Upstairs also had a master bedroom which is very nice and neat. Living room is not huge but is of good size for a party of around 6, 6 seating places at the dining table. Nice fireplace which we had not had a chance to use. Apple TV was nice. Deck is very spacey with table/benches. We enjoyed cooking our meals at the gas grill and had our dinners and breakfasts outside. It was of perfect temperature, but no direct sun on the deck. I was thinking it would benefit from some lounge chairs, just an idea! The property is mostly wooded and it was very nice to enjoy the greenery of the trees and birds singing while sitting at the deck. Unfortunately there is not much property outside of the house that is easily available and usable. The house is right next to the small road with very little traffic. The lawn was tiny, with a fire pit surrounded by forest. My boys like to play soccer and Frisbee, unfortunately there was no space for that. But we had a blast at the Colgate lake which is only about 15 minutes drive. The kitchen was very well equipped. Lots of pots and pans, lots of cutlery and plates. Such a great selection of glasses! Microwave, coffee-maker, toaster-oven, dishwasher all worked great! Fridge was stocked with some condiments. We bought bottled water as water from the sink had tiny bit of sulfur smell. Downstairs there were 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and a small living room with play station, TV and large couch. It was nice and cool downstairs so I totally did not feel the need for AC, which is frequently a concern when traveling with small kids. Both bathrooms were well stocked with clean towels and water was nice and warm. I can totally see how this is a great winter house and would love to come back during the ski season. Overall we had a great time and amazing experience! Super clean! Coming back!"

"This home is far better than the pictures show!!! It's a clean, beautiful, spacious, well laid out, fully stocked with anything you could need and a very comfortable rental. The owners, George and Penny are very welcoming. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone!!! You will not be disappointed!!!!"

"We and our neighbors just had a lovely weekend here with our 2 toddlers. The house is very private, clean, lots of space, and child-friendly. We would love to come back in the fall when the apple trees on the property are ready for picking!"

"This was a great place for our extended family of 14 to spend time together. There were plenty of bedrooms to accommodate several married couples, children, and some singles - 5 bedrooms with closed doors as well as some mattresses and futons for those needing less privacy. There were comfortable couches for hanging out on the main floor and in the basement game room. The hot tub worked well. The deck was large and spacious - we ate dinner together each night on the deck, after cooking out on the fire pit and charcoal barbecue that were on the lawn. The kitchen and bedrooms were well stocked and clean. The game room in the basement has a good condition pool table and pingpong table, with all the balls and equipment nicely laid out. Large washer/dryer were great for our family too. The location is somewhat secluded (next door neighbor pretty close on one side) but not too far a drive from highways and easy find at night. The internet connection was very good and reliable too, as was cellphone reception. Before we came, were somewhat concerned that there was no air conditioning - but the nights were plenty cool, and opening the windows and screened doors to let in the cooler evening air, and a window fan in the loft, was all that was needed. It did get warm during the mid-day and afternoon, especially upstairs in the loft where it can be stuffy, but we were out during the day anyway, and the basement stayed cool.
For families - be aware that the upstairs loft area is a balcony with banisters that are not childproof. We had the toddlers sleep in rooms rather than out on the loft area. And the path down to the creek in the backyard is lovely but mildly challenging - don't send very little ones down by themselves or go without proper shoes. The house has a pack-and-play as well as a backpack for carrying a baby.
Peter the owner was highly responsive by email, text, and phone, and was very helpful with questions we asked or items we needed. For a rustic vacation without 'roughing it,' this is a great choice."
