"Our family vacation (with two parents, one 8 year old boy, one dog) was such a raving success that the biggest downside was witnessing our usually stalwart son's tears at the very end of our stay. In a word, the place is peace. There's so MUCH property (hard to even compute for any fellow New Yorkers, but let me try with "there are avenues and avenues of property") a dog can safely run and run all day without you worrying about the street. Our son swam, canoed in the world's safest pond, spotted fish, a (barn?) owl, deer, and many a bold Bluejay. We slept like rocks. The TV was exactly what parents want from a family vacation—a fine collection of family DVDs (we all loved "School of Rock") but nothing so jaw-dropping it's luring your children away from nature. There's two bedrooms upstairs, but it would be easy to toss some kiddos in the spacious downstairs living rooms (there's 2) and gift the upstairs to adults only. The pool is perfection, next to what looks like the remains of a 1800s-era (?) stone basement. It's just beyond idyllic. You'll drive away kicking yourself for not exploring the apple orchard in more detail—that's the kind of post-vacation problem you'll have.
One important note on the kitchen, as I'd seen a previous reviewer make somewhat negative comments—the kitchen (and more importantly the BBQ) are great. Is there a Viking stove? No. Would you WANT a Viking stove in a summer house? Hope not! Inside there's a perfectly functioning kitchen and we used it during the one cold evening to make a delicious dinner. I was delighted to poke around the cabinets and find an immersion blender, a Cuisinart, good knives, and even a salad spinner. However the real thrill is in cooking outside. Clearly the owner loves barbecue, because the grill is fantastic, complete with multiple chimneys and a smoker. All forms of grill equipment are there, from skewers to tongs, and your best meals will be out on the deck, overlooking over the water.
Funniest moment: our 1 year old labrador mix encountering her very first deer
Favorite moment: spending every evening from 5-8 out on the dock as a family, watching the nature without our son ever once asking if he could "go turn on the TV""

"My fiancé and I enjoyed our stay so much that we contacted the owner to re-book for a subsequent weekend! They put a lot of thought into the little details of what their guests might need. We brought more supplies then we actually needed since the cabin was well equipped with necessities such as towels, fresh linens, pillows, paper towels, toilet paper, utensils, dinnerware, coffee maker, they even provided metal skewers for your s’mores.
We enjoyed a different hike each day (there is a great guide book in the cabin also!) and were very happy to come back and grill our dinner on their brand new gas grill. Our favorite part though was sitting around the fire pit at night and looking up at the stars. The owner was very thoughtful to have chopped some wood for our fire so all we had to do was get it going and enjoy.
We are looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you, David!"

"Our extended family of 6 adults and 4 children just spent a week in the woods at Tusten Farms Manor House. Nearby relatives often joined us for dinner and we comfortably seated 12 around the big dining room table. The pool is just as beautiful as pictured, the tennis court is in perfect condition. Stan was always available to answer questions. Cell phone service is spotty but bear sightings are a definite possibility. The town of Narrowsburg is a 15-minute drive and has a grocery and a block of charming shops. At least one restaurant, Heron, is excellent. Our history buffs enjoyed a visit to Minisink, site of a Revolutionary War skirmish. The hiking paths were easy enough for our 3 year-old and wild enough to satisfy the older boys. There is a great farmers market in Barryville, another in Callicoon.
The house was clean, well furnished and maintained. It is the last house down a gravel road--luxuriously remote."

"Billy and Jane's cottage is a lovely place to stay. It has everything you could need, and is very clean and comfortable. The backyard stream is wonderful to sit by with breakfast, but if you would rather go out and about in town, the center of Woodstock is in walking distance. The cottage offers a serene outdoor escape with the convenient location right by the town. Thank you for welcoming us to your lovely cottage, Jane and Billy!
