  • Beautiful property in upstate NY

"Gianni and his wife are wonderful hosts and have a great house in upstate New York. We were two couples looking to get away from the city and had a wonderfully relaxing weekend at their home. The house is great especially if you are a couple traveling alone or with kids (the downstairs room has twin beds). The property is breathtaking and there are two lovely ponds that you can swim in. The water is cold but very refreshing on a summer day. Even if you don't swim, it's nice to bring a blanket and sit by the water. The firepit may be one of the best features. We sat for hours in the evening by the fire. If you're interested in wood, Gianni can tell you about the diverse range of trees on his property as well as teach you about some of the gorgeous wood he's harvested. This was a part of the trip we found very enjoyable. Our only two issues during the trip were that the grill stopped working and also that the bottle opener in the house was worn out and didn't work very well. I believe Gianni was planning to get a new grill, but I would suggest bringing your own wine opener if they don't have a new one:) While in town, I'd recommend checking if there is a local auction happening. We attended an auction which was a fun experience for all and a great place to find amazing deals (if you have the time and patience!)."

  • Sweet Little Cabin Indeed!

"Perfect cabin for a romantic getaway. The cabin is very well constructed with beautiful windows, sun roof, and deck. It was spotless, charming, and very accommodating. There are other houses nearby but we felt secluded enough. Hiking trails are only three miles down the road! Many of the stores in the "1 block" town of Phoenicia were closed, but I imagine that it is a bit more lively during the summer months."

  • Large House, Great Fishing, Responsive Owner

"My extended family of 9 adults, 2 children, and 4 dogs spent a week this August at Lago House. INSIDE: The house is very "utilitarian"- not a lot of "homey" extras, very simple décor. That being said, there was room for everyone with the 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. The bathrooms were acceptable in cleanliness as were the bedrooms. The downstairs family room and bedrooms were quite musty smelling when we arrived, but that was easily rectified by opening some windows and emptying the dehumidifier so it would continue to run. The children appreciated the big TV and couch in the downstairs family room on the rainy days to watch the Disney channel. The biggest con inside was probably the kitchen. Several of the cabinet drawers were broken, there may have been mouse poop in one, the dishwasher hardly cleaned any dishes (even after they had been rinsed), and I discovered a leak under the sink on check-out day. It could use some maintenance. Some supplies were lacking- there were only 6 coffee mugs and 8 forks to be found. I ended up donating 4 mugs I bought at the Walmart in Oneonta (20 miles away) to the cause. We used the stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, washer, dryer & propane grill with no issue. (We did not use the hot tub so I cannot comment on that.) OUTSIDE: The location is quite rural as described in the listing- best to be prepared and bring your supplies with you. It is quite a ways to get to any store! The large yard was great for ladder golf and football. The swings were used for hours on end. The firepit down by the water was great for smores and corn roasted on the coals. The lake is small, but the fishing was quite good. Our group caught several large bass, crappie, and pickerel, as well as perch and blue gills (all catch & release). The rowboats were in good repair and were used several times daily. As for swimming, a couple of our group swam in the middle of the lake from the kayaks we brought along. The lake frontage of the camp and area around the dock was quite congested with weeds, algae, and the like. None of us were willing to sink our feet into that! And a word of caution- the deck gets slippery when wet with rain. Be careful on the stairs! OVERALL: Lago House was large enough for our group and accepted pets. The fishermen enjoyed the offerings of Titus Lake. There are some areas that could use some improvement, but none that kept us from enjoying our vacation together. My boys say they would love to go back!"

  • Great Place For Group Ski Trip

"Our group of 10 friends stayed for a weekend at the Windham Chalet and we have a wonderful time. There was more than enough room for everybody - we could have fit several more people, in fact - and it was nice having so many bathrooms. Everything was clean and well-maintained. There's ample space in the living room and dining room. The kitchen was great - perfect for cooking large group meals (we often congregated in there to chat and snack). There could be a few more kitchen utensils/amenities, but we mostly found everything we needed. The hot tub was FABULOUS. The location cannot be beat. It's right at the base of the mountain. The shuttle picks up from a parking lot next door, but the skiers in our group simply walked across the street. The only slight downside was that we could never figure out how to connect to the wifi. But Fabio was always quick to respond to any questions that we had."
