  • This House was the perfect backdrop for an auspicious occasion!

"I wanted to plan a special get away with a select group of dear friends to celebrate the end of my teaching career and to mark my new status in life. The house was just pefect. It is truly more wonderful that the pictures. There are so many artful and quaint touches. The rooms were wonderful and each person loved exploring the house when they arrived to discover all the special spots. Each room had its own charm. The screened in sleeping porch was a highlight. The kitchen was lovely and great to work in. The dishes on the exposed shelves and the wine glasses from the cabinet in the dining room were all convenient to access and made for easy clean up. We enjoyed dining around the rustic yet elegant table in the dining area. Sitting around the living room and talking was sublime. Of all the rooms the living room was more beautiful in person than what you can see in the photos. The technology in the house is also incredible. The airplay system for music and the electronic thermostats were cutting edge. The house has wonderfully wooden floors throughout and they were creaky when you moved around. We joked about it and said this is not a house to be in if you want to sneak around. In the evening sat out on the stone patio grilled our dinner. The table which was a huge slab of stone was really unique. Then we gathered around a fire and had the grand celebration of my retirement. I was truly blessed to be with all of my dear friends in this special house. We were only at the house for two nights, but I could easliy see being there for a week. I would love to spend time reading and relaxing throughout the house and doing more hiking and exploring of the glorious region. Overall the house was magnificent and extremely comfortable. We all felt at home immediately and got right into enjoying each moment of being there. I would definitely recommend this house to friends and family. The property was clean, Lovely bathrooms, plenty of towels, uniquely appointed and very charming. We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant in Bearsville our first night in town. We we spent an afternoon in Woodstock. We picked up groceries at the Sunflower Market and Bread Alone. I also recommend Sunfrost Farmers Market and Oriole 9."

  • Sweet September Getaway

"We had a wonderful long weekend in this lovely cabin, celebrating our anniversary. The beautifully-furnished rooms are quite comfortable -- especially the cozy bedroom, the living room with gorgeous stone fireplace, and the futon-equipped sunroom lined with windows for tree-gazing (or for a nice nap.) We also loved the light-filled bathroom (with a subway-tiled shower and beautiful terra cotta floor tiles) and the spacious blue slate patio, where we enjoyed the warmth of the fire pit while watching the stars come out. The cottage is very clean, with quality linens and towels provided. It is situated on a very quiet hilltop, and is conveniently located near the cute town of Phoenicia (we drove but one could enjoy a leisurely walk there.) We had a bountiful breakfast on Sunday at Sweet Sue's, a popular restaurant specializing in generous plates of pancakes (lemon ricotta and four grain were our choices -- yum!) Another great find was the restaurant Peekamoose, about 15 minutes by car in Big Indian. It has the largest mounted moose head we've ever seen! But what really attracted us was the inventive menu, craft beers, friendly servers and outdoor fire pit (wish this place were in our hometown!) During the weekend, we also visited Woodstock (had to do it, but kind of touristy/tacky), walked along the lovely Ashokan Reservoir, and explored some of the little towns along Rt. 28. David and June are the very helpful homeowners, who answered all our questions and responded quickly to emails. We highly recommend their charming cabin!"

  • Very nice cabin in a quiet location

"My husband, 3 month old daughter and I stayed here for a long weekend. We arrived on a Thursday night and left on Saturday. Friday was a cold day so after going to town for breakfast, we went back to the cabin and hung out there all day - relaxing, napping and enjoying the quiet! This cabin was very nicely renovated and everything in the main room and bedroom were very nice! The kitchen was well-equipped. We didn't cook in the cabin, but I made coffee every morning and there seemed to be enough cooking supplies for those who wanted to cook. The living room has a nice 'fake' fireplace as a heater and it was very cozy. The bedroom was perfect as well. The bed was comfortable and there was ample closet space. The bathroom was adequate, but not nearly as well-done as the rest of the cabin. It looked a bit shabby. One of the best features is the outdoor hot tub! We enjoyed it in the evenings and a chilly afternoon. One suggestion to the owner would be to supply additional towels. We only had two towels and had to use them for showers and post-hot tub. Note: this house is not walking distance to town. It's about a half mile from 212 and then, once on 212, it's another mile or so to the village green. If you are looking for a place where you can walk to town...this is not it. However, if you want proximity to town but a remote, quiet place to return to at the end of an outing, then this place is great! We ate breakfast both mornings at Oriole 9 - love this place and highly recommend it! We had dinner at the Bear Cafe and at the Red Onion - both were excellent and a very short drive from the house."

  • great rental all round

"It was a pleasure working with Mirav (the owner) in setting up our wedding weekend. We were pleasantly surprised the moment we walked through the doors. From the hammock next to the stream, the hot tub, the open layout, and even the deer and wildlife..it was a perfect little getaway. Mirav was very considerate of our privacy and even volunteered to be a witness and take pictures at our "ceremony" that we had on the back porch. Great location near woodstock and Phoenicia as well. We certainly hope to be back."
