  • Keuka Lakeside August 2014

"This cottage was beautiful and very well equipped / furnished for a fun and relaxing vacation. Starting from my inquiries on the cottage and through to arrival details and making sure we didn't have any needs not addressed once there, David was extremely accessible, friendly and helpful. He even provided me detailed instructions and pictures on using the mooring whips for docking my boat. The whips are fantastic for people who want to keep their boat from bumping the dock - and it will without them - they did a great job. The outdoor gas grill is sheltered from weather on the patio under the deck, so you can still bbq even in rain. This sheltered patio area is also nicely furnished and well lit - fun place to hang out in the evening, along with the dock or deck. The east side of the river location affords views of the sunset over the opposite side, nice! Boat launches are nearby, if you being a boat its a good idea to launch your boat first instead of hauling it down to the cottage - we hauled ours straight to the cottage and backed it up into the parking area but it takes some trailering skills, I would launch first my next stay. We hope to return in the future!"

  • Perfect Autumn Retreat

"When our friend Barb from Dallas told us she wanted to run the Wineglass Marathon, I suggested renting a house in the Finger Lakes region. We decided on Keuka Lake since it's the closest of the lakes to the starting line, and then I went to work on VRBO to select the "perfect" house for our group of six adults. Man, did I nail it! Southern Sails was wonderful: Clean, roomy, beautifully furnished, delightful decorative touches. It's conveniently located, and offers a wonderful view of the lake from the gorgeous sitting room. We sat on the dock in the mornings drinking our coffee, and in the late afternoons drinking other beverages. On one rainy evening we sat on the covered deck watching the rain gently fall on the lake. The location was a perfect jumping-off point not only for the marathon, but for day trips to the Keuka Outlet bike trail, Watkins Glen, the Corning Glass Museum, Curtiss Museum, antiquing, wine tasting, and more. Located just a few miles above Hammondsport, we had our choice of several nice restaurants (I recommend the Village Tavern). Even closer is the landmark Switzerland Inn, a perfect place for casual dining overlooking the lake. Our group has already decided we'll be going back."

  • Great vacation

"This was an absolutely fantastic vacation, with a beautiful location on Keuka Lake; responsive but not intrusive nearby owners who responded to any minor problems we had; and a wonderful lakeside patio where one could read, relax, recall memories of earlier get-togethers, or just enjoy the beauty of the environment. Great restaurants nearby, vineyards with fun tastings, and just a relaxing, enjoyable week. Although one individual had minor mobility problems, she was able to do the stairs and encountered no problems. Would return again in a heartbeat."

  • Excellent Cottage

"We recently stayed at the cottage for three nights. Cottage was exactly as pictured and described. Excellent location to visit the lakes and little towns. We went to many wineries, along with visiting Penn Yan, Corning Gaffer District, and Watkins Glen raceway for the Ferrari International. We ended our evenings in Hammondsport walking to the Bistro and Taverns in town. Excellent location for all activities. So much to do in the area. Dan was an excellent host. He sent quite a bit of information to us ahead of time and suggested some restaurants. Only regret was that we didn't get to spend more time enjoying the cottage and it's beautiful kitchen and outdoor deck. Safe area for families/couples. Highly recommend this property. Just a side note: the wineries closed at 5 pm so you may want to stay at least 3 nights in order to visit a few."
