  • We love Twix

"This has been the best vacation property we have rented in the Finger Lakes. The first time we stayed here was in October 2013, we also rented Twix in September 2014 and we will be there again in September 2015. We stayed there with our friends and some family. Being there in October was gorgeous. The leaves were just turning color and the weather was perfect. There were just 9 of us and we had more than enough room. The water was too chilly to go swimming but we were able to use the row boat and the 2 kayaks that were there. My sister brought her 2 kayaks to add to the fun. The row boat can hold up to 5 people and it has 2 sets of ores. We spent a lot of time in the row boat and kayaks and at the fire pit, that weekend. We gathered a lot firewood while hiking. During the evenings, it got really chilly and there were space heaters that warmed up the houses. When we went in September we had so much fun. This time, there were 11 people that came with us. The weather was so warm during the day, that we spent most of the time in the water. Even the dog played in the water and went swimming. There was very little seaweed, it just ran along the shore but once you got past it, it was great. We brought some inner tubes and there were some there, already. This time, we had wood delivered to the house soon after we arrived. It was easy getting the wood to the beach. We barely spent time in the house, but we could get wifi signal down on the beach, which was awesome. Having the 2 houses was great. We were able to have the morning people in the small house and the late sleepers in the big house. And with the amount of space between the houses and the beach, noise was not an issue. We love that the fire pit is on the beach, we had a fire going every day, all day until we went to bed. In the mornings, we cooked breakfast and coffee on the fire pit as the sun was rising over the trees. And in the evenings, most of us would be sitting around the fire as we settled down for the day and watch the sun set over the lake. Some of us used the kayaks and row boat to go fishing in the early morning or in the early evenings. There is a garage under the small house that you can access from the beach. It houses the kayaks, ores, and random floatation devices. It had plenty of room to store the extra kayaks and other random things that we brought. With having 2 houses, a large secluded beach and lots of land to go hiking, this place is ideal."

  • A nice cabin, beautiful dock area, fantastic hot tub.... recommended!

"The cabin was nice and fairly new, we had a great time. Excellent climate control, everything that you need as far as kitchen equipment and supplies. Not a huge cabin and not much closet space, but mostly adequate. An excellent owner, and they will make sure that everything is in order for you. A couple nice places to boat to close by, be sure to hit the Switzerland on Sunday afternoon for an outside band on the deck with drinks and appetizers. It's directly across and slightly right, look for the green umbrellas. To the right of your dock and down by the point, look across for the Lakeside, nice outdoor dining and good food with a band playing. A couple oh by the ways, the hot tub is 165 steps down the hill, the dock at least another 165. The picture kinda leads you to believe that its next to the cabin, this would be an issue if you were older. This is no cheezy hot tub, but a really nice, large tub with a lot of jets in a gazebo. There is no place to park bigger than a 16' boat trailer and it's on a narrow dead end street with no turn around, plan to park at the State Park and leave your trailer ($7), a 6 mile boat ride back. Penn Yan has a free launch but $5 to park and its 11 miles away. 5 miles away is another launch, but $25 and they have to launch it for you. This cabin has a narrow driveway and semi-difficult to maneuver, don't plan to take your boat to the cabin to unload, it may not be possible. Bring lots of boat fenders for the guest dock, the lake is rough on the weekends and the paint on my boat got hammered. The cabin livingroom is pretty small, probably 7' x the width of the cabin with a really small TV on cable. The diningroom table is missing, the picnic table is in the eating area which is an enclosed porch but nice. You'll not find the fan control in the living room, its behind the china closet. Lighting is really bad, especially in the dining area and master bedroom. The exercise equipment in the ad does not exist, but hey, you're on vacation. A better description of the cabin is a 2 level + loft, not 3 stories as the ad says. I must say that everything was clean and well kept. The closest gas station is about 6 miles away by the State Park, they only accept cash. Penn Yan is 11 miles away and the closest place for supplies. Over all, I don't regret our decision to stay there and we had a great time. Plan to spend your nice evenings at the dock, in the lower yard around the fire pit, or soaking in the hot tub."

  • The Great Escape

"There is a reason why we're coming back to Shale Beach and this wonderful cottage; the Perfect Getaway from it all. My wife and I, two sons and two nephews had a fantastic week of fishing, swimming, relaxing and just enjoying the scenery. Watklins Glen State Park is a great day out along with the winery choices. My boys and nephews are 21 and 19 respectively, and insisted on coming back here. That says alot! Great owner who is a phone call away if needed. The cottage is beautiful and extremely clean. I highly recommend staying here."

  • Weekend Getaway!

"We have enjoyed this property many times over the past few years! We love the location of the property - a quick and easy drive to many things! This cabin is well maintained and always clean upon our arrival. We appreciate having a fully stocked kitchen - after spending a day on the wine trail, it is nice to come back and prepare a nice meal and enjoy some great wine! The hot tub is always a popular spot. We can't wait for our next getaway."
